When I used to be a customer, I was talking to one of the guys there about how the there didn't seem to be as many crackheads around. Guy told me that they spent years asking the City to do something to no avail. Once the East Village started to come together the cops had the area cleaned up in a couple of days.

I think that area of 8th ave was dubbed "Crack cul-de-sac" not too long ago.
I am really interested to see how the neighborhood progresses with the two homeless shelters close by. Will the future residents of east village and the homeless population live in harmony? Will the residents demand the homeless shelters close/relocate? Can the homeless shelters even be repurposed!?
