im sure their spending a huge load of money to buy the property so their not just going to let it sit there... obviously thier buying it for a purpose. They intend to spend 80 million plus on the project and they probably will. If it is in fact the lot acroos from the forks.. itll definitely be prime real estate.. right in the center of dt by the river, the forks, walking distance to night life, st boniface area.. they will definitely build something and the thought of 2 high rises at that locations will have huge impact on the skyline.

capital point is also being held up by underground hydro inferstrcuture that has to get moved witch involves sask power building eletrical vaults and runing duct for 200plus meters thats not a small task

Manitoba Hydro has a tender out for a new Substation out on Martin Ave West in Elmwood to replace the existing 50+ year old Martin substation.

The plans are not on the internet but I wonder if this one is going to be a depressed bowl station like the new one on Burrows where the Transformers and distribution lattice are going to be kept low to give a better visual profile?

Be prepared for Manitoba Hydro to be spending money in Winnipeg for infrastructure improvements over the next few years.

They have discovered at least 47 manholes in the old Winnipeg Hydro service area that need to be replaced with a 3-5 week construction time span for each one.

There are 20 substation that need to be replaced or refurbished over the next 12 years and 38 that do not have excess capacity. This means if a station goes down they can't transfer the load to another one to restore service.

As well over the next 6 years they plan to spend $200 million to replace 6 terminal stations in Winnipeg.

Yes and unfortunately it will cost all of us through higher hydro rates with yearly increases forecast for the next five years.

I am totally convinced that the lots Fortress has secured on the two surface lots between Smith and Donald facing Graham. The St Regis deal specifically called out several surface parking lots that were included. The Free Press article about the Fortress deal today had comments on the deal from CentreVenture who backed the St Regis deal. Further, the St Regis sale closes in January explaining why Fortress cannot disclose their location. Finally, the lots are immediately next to the SHED but not in the special tax zone that is the SHED which could explain the confusion.

My question about the Fortress proposal - is their $80 million dollar project just a portion of the overall budget because $80 million won't build much of a big 2 tower development. Use Heritage landing as an example - it is 25 storey's and about $75 million.......just curious.

depends on the footprint....heritage landing is massive...its the area of a more typical residential twin tower.

They have 3 more stations to come in the next year or so. King St replacement - across from Calvary Temple, Madison Station (St James Station) behind Future Shop and William and Tecumshe Station for HSC still to come.

Did not know the location of the King St. replacement. I thought maybe they would buy the part of the building the police garage is in and use that side.

The William Ave station is part of a large project to improve electrical service to the HSC complex. I think there is going to be a second powerhouse being built next to the new substation as well.
