Sure, the house isn't Europe old, but it's Canada old. It would be a protected heritage house almost anywhere else, and its history as an official residence does give it significant patina. Important people and events have been inside its walls. Repurpose the existing building and add whatever needs adding.

It isn’t Canada old, it is Ship of Theseus old. The house was almost entirely destroyed in the 1950s and then gutted again in the last few years. There is nothing heritage about it.
