Because it's easy=quick=cheap to design. Easy=quick=cheap to complete drawings. Easy=quick=cheap to get approvals. Easy=quick=cheap to construct. Easy=quick=cheap to finish, and it sells easily.

There's a massive number of buyers who can't tell the difference and don't know what they're actually buying.
