What do you mean by 'closing down'?

Another generic BAF home, no character, no color, just blah.

Why would someone go through the massive efforts of redeveloping, and then put this up? It looks like a SFH version of one of the newer inner city condo blocks that have no character, charm, or unique qualities about them. It is not as if I wouldn't take this house if someone offered it to me for free, but I just see this having come up in such a location as an opportunity lost.

Because it's easy=quick=cheap to design. Easy=quick=cheap to complete drawings. Easy=quick=cheap to get approvals. Easy=quick=cheap to construct. Easy=quick=cheap to finish, and it sells easily.

There's a massive number of buyers who can't tell the difference and don't know what they're actually buying.

Okay, but you're tearing down a home that had value, demolition that has a cost, digging out a foundation that is also expensive. So you do the other things cheap, but frankly, spending a marginal higher percentage on the build portion of the equation would likely unleash the most dollars. If they wanted to just build and flip, this would be a duplex one would think.

But these builders gain efficiencies by building the same thing over and over on multiple properties.

What a complete waste of inner city land. This is the kind of suburban garbage you'd expect from a Panorama Hills or Sage Hill.

I don't think those communities allow such low density / have such massive lots to be wasted in this way. Calgary deserves top notch architecture particularly in the inner city, like the new library.
