^^^ just watched that crane go up from our offices.

I wonder when the Alt hotel will get it's crane. They seem to be running out of things to do there without requiring serious lifting.

Also the Women's hospital seems to be waiting for a crane or two as well.

A Google image search reveals a number of buildings whose "lines" would complement the WAG building. Appears to be a good fit.

Took a look at his website and it looks like he designed a proposal for the CMHR. Not my cup of tea but it looks interesting.

The detailing is spectacular! It will look and feel amazing once the curtain is raised for the first show.

Why is the city getting more and more stingy on lining downtown streets with holiday decor? Portage Ave doesn't even have the xmas trees on the blvd this year. I remember in the 80's how dressed the streets were. On Main from Redwood to Portage and on Portage from Main to Vaughan. Back then we could say we were the Christmas capital of Canada. Not now.

My parents used to take us for a ride downtown to see all the lights when I was young. Im sure many others did too. It got people downtown.

Btw, Would anyone here have pictures of downtown back then during the holiday season? Id like to reminisce.

Not sure what your referring to in terms of lights downtown. It looks the same as every other year to me.

I don't remember boulavard trees but the downtown biz sponsers the festival of tree and lights which has taken place in the MB Hydro building the past few years. It's probably more beneficial to downtown to have people having to walk around the area to see displays rather than just drive by looking at lights from their cars.

Now that looks like a Christmas capital of Canada. (although it looks like the 80's, today's technology with LEDs could really look nice if Winnipeg and business put in some more effort and Christmas spirit in. The Nothwest Company on South Main just after Broadway did a really nice job this year!)

The Richardson is getting even outta the spirit this year. The huge light christmas tree (like in the pic below) is absent this year.

I think that the Downtown Biz has the lit up "Bowling Balls" in the locations in the median where the Xmas trees use to go downtown.

Met Theatre

Yea, the old girl is looking spectacular! Reminds me of when I went to the Met Theatre to see Cheech and Chongs "Up in Smoke" when it first came out. Funniest part was that they actually could not keep up with the demand for popcorn from all of the glasy eyed movie patrons!

The few that do light up have been illuminated since summer. Someone should inform the BIZ that more than a 20W light bulb should be used! Lol.

I did like it when they strung the lights across the street, I think it looks better than only on the light posts. I like the angels and the current decorations, but why not also string one across the street every block with something?

im curious to know what kind of pressure the city is under to keep the holidays as politically correct as possible. not everyone celebrates the season with a tree etc. although lights seem to be a common denominator no matter what religion or belief you may follow
