[Saint John, NB] New Brunswick Museum Expansion | 3 Storeys | Under Construction

Figured a thread was long overdue for the Revitalize NBM, New Brunswick Museum expansion/revitalization project.

In recent news regarding this project, the Irvings stepped up with a major donation to the museum's fundraising campaign.

Here's a link to the official museum website for the project:

https://revitalizenbm.com/makinghistorynow#project

This should be a transformational project for Douglas Avenue and Saint John as a city and region.

Looking forward to Canada's oldest museum's grand re-opening!

It really is going to be something. That photo rendering from the Marble Cove side with uptown and the harbour in the background— stunning. I'm exited for the trail upgrades down to the cove as well.

Overall, a great project, though I did like the original back-side of the building in the original design. This new version adds tons of windows which I guess will be nice for those inside looking out, but takes away from the aesthetic of the original design, IMO.

I'm still interested to find out if the rounded part in the back of the existing museum will be retained or demolished. That's one of my favourite parts of the existing building, and i was hoping it would be preserved inside the expanded space as a sort of "building within the building", but I fear it will be demolished.

Good to hear. I wonder when we will see major work on the additions commence.

Great Aerial View of the New, New Brunswick Museum Expansion Project

Video Link

Video credit: Eunice Flores.

I'm sorry to see my favourite part of the Museum seems to have been lost in this expansion project, but obviously, it's not anything worth getting upset over, considering how much of an improvement this final project will be.

Also, upon closer inspection from this video and the most recent renders, we might have to request a thread title change, as three storeys might be selling this project short. Including the rooftop cafe area, I think this could even be considered a 5 storey project?

They've received a few more sizeable donations recently, and momentum is definitely building. I am excited to see how much progress they can make this year once the weather warms.

New Brunswick Museum says it's halfway to funding goal

https://tj.news/new-brunswick/new-brunswick-museum-says-its-halfway-to-funding-goal

Quote:
On Tuesday morning, the museum announced that it has raised $19.5 million, including gifts from major donors like Irving Shipbuilding, Irving Oil, the McCain Foundation and RBC Foundation. The museum announced its $35 million capital campaign in July as part of a $145 million project to build a new home for the museum on the site of the original 1934 building on Douglas Avenue in Saint John, expected to open in spring 2028.
Quote:
The presentation also included speeches from museum COO Brent Suttie and economist David Campbell with Jupia Consultants, Inc. Suttie told the crowd that museum construction is 10 per cent complete, with 15 per cent of the tenders issued. He said they’d made “extraordinary progress in a short time,” and with site prep complete, they expect “rapid acceleration” of the project.

Speaking to reporters, Suttie said they hope to have 60 to 70 per cent of the tenders issued within the next five months, and that by this time next year, the “building will start looking closer to the final version.” He told the audience that the project was on time and on budget.

Promotional materials reflect a project budget of $145 million, which is an increase from $141.5 million as reported last year. Brunswick News has made a request for clarification and is awaiting a response.

Looks like they are getting ready for a tower crane. (Photo from Retail Talk & Share NB).

I haven't snapped a pic yet, but the tower crane is now installed on site! It's cool seeing a crane on Douglas Avenue, can't imagine that has happened in a long time (if ever).

When was the last time Saint John had 3 proper tower cranes installed and working + the small one on crown and the monster crawler at Irving.

Love the aerial views because you can see that they are already starting the foundation work. Between that and the crane after this many years of waiting this has been a big week for the museum!
