Next time it'll be removed. Design-Mind responded to it and it answered a question so we'll leave it this time.

Such unfounded and incorrect accusations have been hurled on multiple occasions, and really need to stop. It it an absolutely clear example of trolling.

Construction completed, new Central Library prepares to open its doors

RYAN RUMBOLT
Updated: September 14, 2018

Calgary’s new Central Library in the East Village is almost ready to open its doors.

Mayor Naheed Nenshi, members of council and the Calgary Municipal Land Corporation will celebrate the end of construction on the $245-million project with an event outside the library on Friday morning, bringing the 240,000-square-foot project one step closer to its grand opening.

The library won’t be open to the public until Nov. 1, but Postmedia was given a sneak peak back in February.

What will become of the old central library building?

Something is cooking for an interim use, but long term I expect the city to build or lease a new City Admin Annex on the site.

An annex would allow the city to eventually redevelop the Administration Building (but this building was overhauled post flood so it is less urgent now than it was before then).

Given how much under budget other projects have come in during this downturn $10 million on a $250 million budget isn't all that special.

Beautiful video, including a construction time lapse at the beginning.

My god, people on this forum are asses. I just came back from the library and it is 1) a spectacular building, 2) a fantastic library, 3) an incredible public asset. It is also phenomenally packed with thousands of proud Calgarians who are milling around and admiring the thing.

Snohetta knocked it out of the park with this one. Like the Peace Bridge (which I suspect some on this forum still think would be better as rope bridge) the new library is going to be an icon for the city and will generate a ton of international attention. These days, it seems like a lot of calendar architecture is pretty but useless -- like pretty well everything Daniel Liebskind has ever managed to complete. This building is a beautiful response to the site and purpose. It'll win awards.

And yeah, the occasional homeless person will certainly come in to warm up and read a newspaper. That's not a bad thing.
