How do you know, or better, what do you know about the specific challenges at the library on this? It would be a good construction update and interesting to understand the inside information on the intricacies of putting this unique building together!

Spectacular images from inside the new library. Really an amazing public asset and civil society hub. I'm looking forward to programming in their bookable spaces and awesome theatre!

Really, you find that this do you? So you're an architect or in the construction business right? Oh wait....no you're not.

Look, if you're going to post bullshit info at least have something to back it up.

Much like a ship’s hull, the cedar planks are secured to a Douglas fir framework, constructed and delivered in manageable panels. The panels are being suspended from the library structure with steel rods and cables. The New Central Library’s design calls for approximately 170 individual panels weighing, on average, 750 pounds (340 kilograms) each. That adds up to more than 125,000 lb (57,000 kg) of wood!

“A feature such as this wooden soffit necessitates very careful attention to detail,” says Jean-Baptiste Bachmann, Project Manager, StructureCraft Builders Inc. “When you consider the extreme weather conditions the wood will have to endure, the fine knife-edge interface with the glass façade and the fact that the soffit is prefabricated in panels that need to fit perfectly together on site, you have a considerable challenge. A dimensionally complex project like this has depended on close coordination between the design and fabrication teams.”

The purple light looks good. Is there a map that shows how people get into the library from the LRT station?

Nice logo by the way.

To follow from the colour discussion from the construction thread - that purple lighting looks fantastic - because it is tasteful.

Thank you Design-mind for those photos! It looks amazing. I especially like the one with the LRT passing through it!

Here's a pic of the interior of the new library. Gives a bit of an idea of what the windows look like from the inside. I'm not a fan of the pillar placement.

My understanding of the construction of the library is that the some of the steel beams that make up the trusses are up to 55' in length and are placed to reduce the amount of load-bearing columns throughout the interior. I guess the downside of that is that most of the trusses intersect with the floorplates near the exterior.

There's an article in Architecture Digest titled "The 12 Most Anticipated Buildings of 2018" where the new Calgary Public Library makes the list.

Hmmmm, same pictures as Surrealplaces posted in SRC. Same person? Corndogger-Suburbia same person, and Tall Bob-Craner same person, and now Surreal and Design Mind. Something fishy going on
