I've been going through the Design Review Committee documents and minutes to try and figure out what's going on and haven't really seen any clear answers.

And then you have those panels on the south face which are very visibly mismatched with the surrounding materials. I'm just really hope what we're seeing in the base will get cleaned up or polished or something, as it in its current state just seems to lack the texture and definition that the latest renderings showed.

They are precast concrete made north of Seattle. I agree granite, like across the street on Wells Fargo building would have given the building a better look. Right now it looks like drying out grey concrete. A cheap look, but lets wait and see what the bottom five floors will look finished.
The only granite I see is the black granite blocks on the 6th floor.

8th&Main Tower

Vision granite on lower floors with frosted glass on the garage area between 3rd and 4th levels. The precast panels on the lower part of the building blends with adjoining buildings. The glass is turning out spectacular, and it will be lighted at night with accent lights all the way up on the corner of 8th and Main. Should be a wonderful addition to our city.

i agree about the mismatched panel. it's been bothering me, too, but i assumed it's just a temporary thing that'll get fixed somehow.

i walk by the site during lunch just about every day, and i've heard other people point out that same mismatched panel, so it's not just us that notice it.

it looks like the color around the windows is a lighter cream shade, more like what was in the final rendering. i was concerned that it'd be the darker gray, so i'm glad the main tower portion will closely resemble the rendering.

can't wait to see the top of this thing start to take shape, too. should be an exciting next few weeks as we see the steel top out and the facade added.

I really like the dusk pics, Sawtooth--a type of image we don't see that often other than with our own eyes.

Totally Agree! The tint of the glass is such a nice dark blue. Really goes well with the white panels.

I was leery about the dark colored glass from the renderings. It looks better than I expected. It'll add a nice stripe of color to the skyline.

Adding Steel to the 17th Floor today. Now it's officially as high as the core.

Sat morning web cam pic of 17th floor steel being placed. Check it out, the ceiling height will be taller than floors 6th to 16.

I could be wrong but looking at the elevations again, it looks the tower's last floor will still rise much further, about the equivalent of two more floors.

I have been seeing the same thing and have been considering it 20 floors when technically it's only 18 because of that.

Steel stud walls on the 18th will be up to 35 ft.

Walls on the 17th will be up to 25 ft.

They just added a couple LONG I-beams to the structure that by the looks of the joints the beams go up another 2 floors.

Skyline

Here is a little Skyline shot from my folks' house on the Bench. Right around Chinden/Curtis. From Easter.

Seems to really fit in well from this angle. Still looks shorter than the renderings would have made us believe. I Don't think it will clear the US bank building without the spire.
