Thanks for the rain Biff.
Maybe you were misinformed again about this like you were about the Ashdown Warehouse window replacement project? Cause, havin 3 towers on that one city block for Centre Point would be pretty amazing.

Just wondering...where is the market for all of these new proposed towers? There is very little new business development here in Winnipeg and I can't see a large demand for any serious quantity of residential unless there is sufficient underground parking.

...................i was wrong about Ashdown????
I didn't say you were wrong, misinformed about the Ashdown window replacement project. Your source isn't as credible as someone whos actually lives and owns there, like myself. The window replacement project is moving slower than molasses in January.

So, you coughed up some info with regards to a 36 story tower only being a block away. So, it must be on the lot at graham and Smith or Graham and Hargrave. Interesting. Unless they're leveling an existing building.

Well, I think that we clearly don't know the inside scoop about this stuff like some of the insiders here do. With the amount of proposals coming up, there is clearly a demand for this, as I doubt corporations/businesses would just waste a bunch of time and money developing proposals for the sake of interest only. So instead of looking at it in a negative sense, I'm looking at it with great pride and joy in the blossoming of downtown!

population has still increased significantly in the last 5 years, the city is running out of serviceable land within city limits. Most of the newer developments will be towers and closer to the core, remember winnipeg was built on marshland a lot of areas surrounding winnipeg have poor foundations that make it difficult to build houses on. So expect the majority of new housing options in the city to be of the high rise variety. So in 20 years Winnipeg will have about 30 new highrises in the core like it or not.. Or well have to extend the perimeter and see growth in areas like selkirk and headingly.

I hope all the proposals have a solid basis yet I cannot help wondering if they are perhaps done in a bit of a bubble. What I mean is suppose five independent groups are considering building a tall condo project downtown. They all conduct independent fesability studies which say their is support for such a project. That study though fails to take into account that fourth other similar projects are at roughly the same planning stage and will be coming on market around the same time.

the housing market in winnipeg has been red hot for several years....the downtown population has grown by 20% in 5 years....i can guarantee you that every single residential tower being proposed includes parking.

as for the market, i have always maintained that these types of projects create the market.....in my opinion there isnt a finite number of people who would want to live downtown....people dont live downtown right now becasue nobody lives downtown.....the more residential that happens the larger the market will become.....more amenities will develop, a better urban quality, greater vibrancy that will attract people to live there in greater numbers.

its a snowball that just needs to be pushed so it can gather momentum....people attract people.....

they build 5000 houses a year in winnipeg....a few hundred residential units downtown doesnt seem impossible.

Wow. Nice common areas! Suites are kinda small, but perfect for young professionals. IKEA has two room set ups that showcase the same size sq footage as the Glasshouse suites with furnishings. Its definitely livable.

D Condo are pre-selling fast. More than half sold already. Im sure Glasshouse will have the same outcome

Can't remember the names of the units, but I was told the first ten floors with the smaller balconies shown in the rendering are all sold. My friends landed themselves one of the only two units with the 800+sq foot balcony. The other one is sold as well.

odd that it says 'exposed steel columns'....cant do that in a highrise...has be fire rated somehow.

i am very anxious to see how these sell...it will be a bellwether for all of these other proposed residential towers.....will winnipeg finally buy into the small urban condo?....they haven't so far.
