Nice to see these small hotels in neighbourhoods like Mt Pleasant and Kits. Small-scale and more budget-friendly hotels are needed too.

2339 Main is bizarre. And I thought we were in a “housing crisis”? Why would they approve losing affordable rentals for a few oddly placed hotel rooms?

Hotels are a permitted use in the zone here. City Council approved new policy last year to help address Vancouver's hotel room shortage - so there's also a perceived "hotel rooms crisis".

I would say small = boutique, not budget friendly.

Think Opus in Yaletown.

But you think we aren't in a housing crisis. Will the whining ever cease?

Sometimes yes, but these (especially the one on Broadway) seem like they will be more rudimentary. The West Broadway building in particular, it's a small 2-storey office/institutional use currently. I can't see more than a few rooms.

Capsule hotels tend to be on the small and budget friendly side.

Kalido's 'Block House' only has 19 rooms, in a converted office building in Gastown, but they're asking $500 and up a night. Viaggio's Modo Hotel that just opened in a converted SRO on Granville have some smaller, micro rooms that are $250+, and regular c 200 sf rooms are $400.

The West Broadway building probably only has 2,000 sf of second floor space, so will be pretty limited in scope. It was a Jewish Community Centre (above a kosher restaurant), so the conversion won't be as easy as a previous residential building.

Maybe the Main Street project will be another Carmana with Peterson behind it. They seem to also own Porter 2 next door?

I'm curious, why doesn't this woebegone project have its own thread?

There's a trade-off between convenience and dogmatism (if that's a word).
This forum like grouping areas in omnibus threads for projects that are 'minor' or not updated often. That makes it hard to find posts afterwards.
Forums like Urban Toronto are dogmatic in having a thread for each project by address which makes it hard to find the thread to add a post if there's only an update every few months.
So the general threads make it easier to post and the forum isn't clogged up by minor projects.
You can see a bit of that with the number of separate threads for the various Metrotown projects.
