I think if we can step off of our high horses for a minute and stop looking down upon those who have different views than us, we might notice that any resistance is often the same as any other time we face change. Some will embrace it, some will be fearful of it, and some will understand clearly and simply take a different point of view. It’s not a case where Halifax has a higher percentage of ignorance or lack of education, as some might want us to believe. This sort of thing happens in cities everywhere and it often is associated with a sense of loss or trepidation over potential worst case scenarios.
I understand people on a pro skyscraper forum becoming upset over comments from the public that don’t support their beliefs, but really your fears are unfounded. Things are still being built, and heights are increasing. The Robie/Young area is becoming a bonafide slice of urban pie. Rejoice in that, and be happy to live in a democratic society where people can publicly express their views, and lazy “journalists” can cherry pick comments from public forums, copy/paste and publish them verbatim, and receive a paycheque for it. All’s good in old Halofax town. 😊
