Actually, I wonder if this could be opening in the Three Sisters? The podium of the third sister has several opportunities for restaurant establishments.

The name "Nila" might indicate south Asian cuisine.

If you google the name, it shows 841 Main St which is the old Navs.

They should have went with a parking structure even with the added cost. I guess Moncton likes surface parking lots more.

Indeed. 375 employees. They shoulda known better. A parking structure should have been built.

Of course, why should we expect better from the city when the province refuses to build a parking structure for the Moncton Hospital (3000 employees), and several thousand other patients and visitors every day. Parking? Who need parking???? It doesn't matter how sick you are, you can just take the bus to the hospital!! Late for work because you can't find parking??? Not the province's problem.

Heritage Developments owns the vacant land adjacent to the new station, which they've been sitting on for years. We'll see a parking lot created here, adding to their "portfolio" of downtown surface parking lots.

A parking structure connected to the new station would have been the way to go, but that's unlikely to happen now.

The Moncton Hospital parking situation is horrible indeed. I have heard the nimby's don't want a parking structure anywhere around the hospital. But, it was ok for a three story apartment building to be built in the middle of the Sunny Brea subdivision. Yup, I guess the squeaky wheels get the grease!

I have also heard that some RCMP members are not happy with the new building, but that will surface as time goes on.

I can't even wrap my brain around that one, a parking structure if properly built is way less of a disturbance than looking at a sea of vehicles and all the noise that comes with it. Other than the time taken to construct it.

As far as the RCMP station goes. A shared/divided public & rcmp parking structure on the heritage land would have made way too much sense I guess.

Re: a parking structure, put a floor of neighbourhood-oriented commercial on the bottom and just build it.

Personally I think the northern lot would be a better fit for a garage. Would allow for a pedway to the main hospital building.

Put some medium-density residential on the southern lot so you can at least tell the neighbours 'hey, at least it's not an apartment tower' and reduce surface parking substantially.

Its going to improve the visuals of that area so much. Just in time for the memorial cup bid walkthrough

No different at the SJRH. That parking lot is a disgrace....often full to overflowing with cars parked illegally everywhere reducing travel lanes to one way and creating gridlock. Finding a spot is like The Hunger Games!

To top that they have one or the two payment booths closed between 12 and 2 for lunch. I've seen 25+ cars in line trying to get out.

Agreed. Strange that they chose the height of the summer tourism season for the facade enhancements......

Lots of work suddenly going on at the former St. Bernard's Rectory.

There is a mobile crane on site, and they are busily doing stabilization work on the tower of the rectory. They also appear to be fixing the foundation at the rear of the building.

Very encouraging to see for this Gothic downtown gem!

It would be very nice to see something happen like the feasibility study from Design Plus Architecture:

I respectfully disagree. The Gothic grandeur of the rectory would be completely concealed by a glass facade.

They aren't seriously considering this are they???

This is a very weird perspective for a render. This view looks to be from Queen St where the church is barely visible. I doubt they will cover it up but will expand the building with the glass facade. But yes I totally agree that it should not cover up the old gothic style architecture.

There's been recent focus group discussion and a planned survey for the Moncton Hospital staff about the parking. Multilevel parking has definitely been brought up especially in the context of patients missing specialist appointments, staff being late, and Moncton not only being the biggest city in the province, but also among the fastest growing urban centres in the country. Not to mention servicing nearby communities like PEI.

From what I know of living in the neighbourhood for 9 years is that a lot of the OG owners of the houses in the area have sold and moved on... many of the houses around the existing lot are now rentals and thus the NIMBY sentiment might be... weaker. Timing is good!

Absolutely. The staff are irrate and angry about the NIMBYs. Some even suggest the city should devalue the properties adjacent to the lot lol. It is also a known fact some of them rent out their driveway to staff as parking.

That said, I do have reservations about putting commercial retail if a multilevel parking is actually greenlighted. Reason being, if this commercial retail is popular, then it will also just crowd the parking again unless there's like 2 basement levels and at least 3 levels above ground or similar. A pharmacy perhaps makes sense but it shouldn't be a sit-in restaurant nor a large grocery.
