I agree. We already fund raised through taxes. If we ask for donations for 24 Sussex, that sets a precedent for the future which could eventually turn into a Trump style "pay to play" system. Not that this particular project is. This isn't a Carney vanity project like Trump's ballroom. Carney probably doesn't care much and will likely never live there, but a future Government could.
EDIT: fwiw, Harper and Chrétien (who are arguably most responsible for the state of 24 Sussex) came up with a similar idea a few years back.
