Wasn't there a CentreBC party that started up after the BC United implosion? That might grab the suburban vote.

I'm still flabbergasted that Kevin Falcon technically holds all the strings to the BC United party, including its name. And the media just collectively shrugged. Wild shit.

CentreBC might have a legitimate shot if they can really put themselves out there as a "third way". I worked with Karin Kirkpatrick before she became an MLA and she always seemed to be a grounded and thoughtful person. Business-minded, but with a community resource/non-profit background.

Anybody who takes Twitter at face value automatically loses the argument. Most "Canadian" retweeters either aren't Canadian, or aren't even human.

just like anywhere, there is good and bad and true and false, I am just thankful that twitter/X exists so that the truth can get out, when most others want to suppress reality and tailor what gets the light of day or not

What passes for ”truth” on Twitter is the biggest pile of bullshit you can find anywhere. Get a grip.

In other words, Twitter. It and Facebook have been crap echo chambers for quite a while now.

I just hope those that those that consider Twitter/X bullshit are willing to accept that all social media should be treated as bullshit. You're not getting any better information on Reddit, Facebook, or Tiktok.

There are clear patterns. Reddit has echo chambers but it's also a pretty decent place to get news. The difference is algorithms, or lack thereof.

Twitter used to be a lot better. It's complete shit now. I'd love it to be better because it's a good piece of software and has/had huge reach.

Facebook has been on a slow steady decline for a decade or more. It really went downhill around 2014-15.

Tiktok I've never been on.

People who spout Twitter as "the only place for real truth" are just outing themselves as brainwashed.

For Reddit I find you have to know the preexisting moderation + voting bias of each subreddit to responsibly read news there these days. Otherwise you're just reading what a group of five-ish people allow you to read, filtered by the echo chamber. You have to build your subscriptions carefully in a way not too different from building your follows on Twitter/X.

Personally I'm back to reading the newspapers. I'm trying out Ground News too.

EDIT: Oh also in case you didn't know:

Lack thereof, lack thereof.

And of course, most of Canada's print and TV media leans right, while CBC leans left. If you're getting all your news from any one single source, you're doing it wrong.

I counter with the opposite, those that think that the truth is in mainstream media and the government supported mess we have in Canada are the ones that are truly brainwashed

I have family members that consume a steady diet of CBC, Global, CNN, etc and they are so brainwashed it is sad to see. They still have their elbows up in the air too, lol.

Ughhhhhhhhh.

BC Conservative Leader Kerry-Lynne Findlay and her senior staff have begun directing MLAs to no longer use the term “First Nations” in describing people but instead use terms like “Indian.”

The directive, which has been recently communicated by Findlay’s senior staff to some—but not all—MLAs and opposition staffers, is apparently in response to the term First Nations being viewed as a woke description and language from the left.

I'm sure that decision will work out fine, and there'll be no unnecessary confusion or outrage among actual South Asian immigrants whatsoever.

It almost feels like every time Eby slips in the polls, the BC Conservatives are there to catch him with something stupid like this.

Or maybe I'm out of touch and this is what half the province wants to hear? I do think that Rob Shaw is spinning this a little bit because apparently the full statement was to use "Indigenous, Aboriginal, or Indian" instead of "First Nations" but why even include Indian unless you're trying to be intentionally divisive?

The Federal Act is still called the Indian Act.

The Musqueam still refer to themselves as the Musqueam Indian Band, but they also use the term First Nation. Presumably it's acceptable to use the word 'Indian' where a First Nation themselves use it, but not using 'First Nation' as a phrase 'because it's woke' seems to celebrate regression. And really, is that how the party want to define themselves?

Ironically (?) Kerry-Lynne Findlay has a long history with the Musqueam, having been a tenant when she bought a leashold property on Musqueam land in the 1990s, and was then one of the lawyers challenging the imposition of property tax (with, as she puts it, 'no representation'). She referred to her fight (which went all the way to the Supreme Court), with what she called 'the Musqueam First Nation'.

Anyone who thinks these people are going to fix the province somehow are either completely delusional, not paying attention, or agree with their blatant racism.

If they win, prepare for everything to become a culture war, and for policy to follow from that, regardless of merit. If something is "woke", it doesn't matter the facts, it must be bad. For an example, see trump paying back a billion dollars to cancel an approved windfarm.

Edit:actually I'm pretty sure the response to this will be some twisting of history to explain why it's actually completely logical and has no racist implications, and that everyone is overreacting.
