Another nice looking slide.

Civic Center 1960s.

I'm surprised how the buildings in the distance look like they're down in a hole.

That said- I spy the old Hall of Records and the State of California Building, both long gone.

. . .but what is the tall tan building to the left of California building?..I can't place it.

IMDB has them.

I didn't remember that the battles continued into the 1980's and beyond.

Curiously, the 1988 Battle still only had the three major networks, to the exclusion of Fox.

Dwight Tyler Simpson was born in New Hampshire and ended up living and dying on New Hampshire.

The death cert has 747 S.New Hampshire Ave. Los Angeles as his residence and place of death.

747 had a stripy gray and white makeover about ten years ago. This street view comes just before that.

Great parade photo!

The left edge building is the 1887-1912 Phillips Block at the NWC of Spring and Franklin, seen from above and behind near the lower right
corner of the second image here.

The mystery building is the 1887-1906 Los Angeles National Bank building at the NEC of 1st and Spring. It's certainly impressive, but the
lot before it was built looks rather small:

Here's the bank building c. 1890:

I think the 1887 bank looks pretty darn cool, but it was replaced by this in 1906:

The Plaza area of the Music Center is quite elevated and that's the view you get! When the redesigned plaza area was re-opened in 2019, the L.A. Times had this article:

L.A.’s Music Center was Built as an Aloof City on a Hill. Can a Remade Plaza Change That?
https://www.latimes.com/entertainment-ar...-rios-clementi-hale-studios-urban-design

From the article:

[The Music Center rises] "a full story above Grand Avenue and the rest of the city, in a design that former Times architecture critic Nicolai Ouroussoff
once likened to “the deck of an aircraft carrier.”

mystery location

"Hamm's Beer Billboard Downtown Los Angeles, Construction+: 1950's 35mm Slide"

Currently on eBay

Note the mystery building under construction in the distance. It appears to be fairly tall & they're not finished with it yet.
--also notice the reddish building under construction on the right side of the photograph.

Here's a closer look.

Making me thirsty.

Saint Vibiana is in photo #1, making that S. Main Street on the right:

https://waterandpower.org/Museum2/St_Vibianas_Cathedral.html

Camera must be swinging left (east) to reveal S. Los Angeles Street where it meets the angled road (originally San Pedro and renamed a few times) at the junction at E. First Street. I’d guess that’s a red & orange Southern Pacific PMT truck approaching the intersection by that hotel (?) which is about where the Salvation Army had some space on that road.

e_r, could the building under construction be the building at the SE corner of Spring and 6th, at present that of the Thurman Lofts, but apparently built in 1960 (I don't know the original name)?

Camera location seems to be City Health Building (later City Hall South) at 111 E. 1st St. and constructed 1952-54. [Parker Center goes in next block east in 1953.]

Hoss, I had forgotten all about the walkway between the parking lot and the Law Building...It looks precarious!

hmm. . I vaguely remember that there was a 'bridge' or walkway between the old Hall of Records and the L.A. County Courthouse.

eBay

Am I correct or did I just dream it up?..I tried to find a photograph of it but I didn't have any lunch.

I also had forgotten about that bridge. The photos may have been taken because the bridge was new then:

You had to be careful in that parking lot behind the Law Building:
