Now that's funny. Well you got the girl. I wonder if she thought she was going down the path of "Lowered Expectations" like the skit on MADtv.

There's a Tim Horton's in Pond Inlet, Nunvut.

Reading some of the reviews is funny. And the store owner responds to them!

After a very long cold winter hike I had made it to the only location Canadians can rely on, Tim Hortons. I survived 10 polar bear lashes, a waddle-off with a penguin, and a stare off with a moose. All worth it for the nice warm cup of Tim’s coffee here at this shop. Thank you for reviving me.

I walked from Quebec to here, had to swim a few times and almost died of hypothermia, a polar bear bit off my toe at the door but they gave me a free muffin to compensate

Chili or chicken stew in a bread bowl, a coffee and a donut for under 6 bucks.

Timothy Hutons deserves respect. As Canadian armed forces members were needlessly dying for Bush's War on Terror this was the one taste of home in the Afghan extreme heat/ desolation.

I miss the turkey bacon club on the big baguette. Tim Horton’s ranch sauce from back then was legendary.

I think Dunkin’ Donuts will do well with their expansion into the Canadian market.

I sure wish Robins Donuts would expand Canada Wide… their Boston Cream is way better than Tim Horton’s or Dunkin’s.

They were already in Montreal back in 2001 when I moved there, and they were shit then.

Not like it would be some monumental task to be better than Tim Hortons today, but still..

Robins should have been the countrywide chain. Not this Tim's crap we have now.

Timmie Ho’s must be shitting their pants over Dunkin’ entering the market. How else do you explain them tossing their cherished business model into the trash?

Tim Hortons says it will hire locals, scale back temporary foreign workers
By Ariel Rabinovitch
Posted May 25, 2026

Tim Hortons says it intends to hire 10,000 “local” workers in the coming months and scale back its use of the Temporary Foreign Worker (TFW) program, adding there could be more opportunities for younger Canadians to find a job.

This comes as youth unemployment shot up to over 14 per cent in April...

"Recent changes have been made to the Temporary Foreign Worker Program:"

"There's a 10% cap on the proportion of TFWs that you can hire in low-wage positions at a specific work location. The cap is to ensure that Canadians or permanent residents are considered first for available jobs."

Program requirements for low-wage positions

This is all bullshit marketing. 'No one is applying', they'll cry. Why, because you can't get away with shit wages anymore?

I hardly ever go to Tim Hortons but I find fast food just doesn't make a lot of sense in Vancouver. It used to be worse quality but cheap and easy. Now quality has arguably gone down even more and the prices are about on par with some actual restaurants. In my neighbourhood, a Chinese restaurant that makes things from scratch is about the same price as McDonald's. I'm not even sure the McDonald's is much faster. I guess it's open late.

She was forced to work for one franchisee only so her option was to transfer within a few locations within Calgary only. She explained to me at the time that most of her fellow TFWs were told basically anything so they would sign a contract. And this was 12+ years ago. Just absolutely shady business practices from Canada's formerly beloved chain.

Anyway, recently the media and outlets like (Ezra Levant's) Rebel News have exposed how Tim Hortons has abused the temporary foreign worker program right at the same time that Dunkin Donuts is coming back to Canada and claimed unlike Tim's that they will actually prioritize hiring Canadian workers for their future stores.

This is happening as unemployment and youth unemployment in Canada overall is rising.

Lo and behold just days after Tim Hortons TFW reporting I've seen Tim Hortons job ads on YouTube

Rather than blame the company for taking advantage of a legal program, one might better direct one's complaint to those who made it legal ...

I think you can blame both faulty Federal government programs and the corporations that fully exploit them

Yeah both are to blame for sure. It has been happening in Canada for quite awhile now and it doesn't matter which party is in power federally. I feel badly for people who move here and end up with a not so great life.

Where I live so many local people quit our many Tim's locations because it's easy to get a better paying job and one with better working conditions. One of our mayoral candidates who many people think should win because he's in business owing several Tim's franchises. But so many here fail to realize that he employs mostly TFWs and their pay isn't good. I don't know how people think that it somehow makes someone an expert at being the head of a municipal government.

Is unemployment really going up that much? I haven't heard of anything indicated that.

TFWs are required to be paid above the average wage for the position in the community. While I am certain it has driven down wages to some extent, I think it is a bit over stated.

What we should expect from withdrawing TFW is improvements in "productivity" and a reduction in head count. McDonalds did a great job at deploying order Kiosks to the point where almost no one interacts with McDonalds staffs. We should expect the same to happen with Tim's.

I find the same thing with most hotels in Canada now. Five years ago, someone would cleanup your room every day. Now, it is non-existent.

This is all about "productivity". Doing more with fewer people all while reducing customer service.

Not to worry they will figure out how to have the kiosk ask for a tip.

Basically what WIGS said. Tim’s was happy to exploit TFWs but now that a recognized US competitor is entering Canada they try to wave the “we’re Canadian” flag.
