Throw in every other nearly identical smaller crossover from the other major manufacturers (rav-4, equinox, escape, CX-5, rogue, etc.) and you have a GIGANTIC share of the local new car market here.

Cold ass winters still have too many people leery about EV batteries.

Cold ass winters also mean most people want an AWD vehicle.

And here we are.

Yeah, CRV seems likely for Northeast, and Equinox seems likely for Detroit/Cleveland.

And as Steely mentioned, that whole class of smaller, largely interchangeable SUVs dominate. Just generally higher Japanese share in Northeast and higher Detroit share in Midwest.

It's funny how certain brands are popular in some places and almost totally absent elsewhere. Lincoln seems huge as a somewhat higher end brand in suburban Detroit. In CA, you could go days w/o seeing a Lincoln. In MI you'll very rarely see a Model Y. You'll see 50 Lincolns before seeing a Model Y.

In the Northeast, you see much higher share of European brands. Far more VWs and Volvos.

Philadelphia-----------Honda CR-V

Incorrect. It's a Nissan Altima that is dented, tinted darkly, stolen license plate or at least expired, driver does not have insurance and is most likely not licensed currently either

Can't tell about Paris in particular, but in France as a whole, the top-selling car would be Renault Clio, or so I read.
I believe most versions are still hybrid, not fully electric yet.

https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Renault_Clio_VI

It doesn't look so bad by today's French standard, which is not great at all, unfortunately.
I wish French auto makers still were in premium vehicles like German brands Mercedes, Audi or BMW.
I guess local designers are just trying to survive Asian competition, that won't be easy.
My only concern is that that car is not even manufactured in France, but in Turkey and Slovenia.

When it comes to e-vehicles, Renault would still be the current winner, with their R5 électrique.

https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Renault_5_%C3%A9lectrique

It is both cute and rather affordable as an e-car, so you pass by it somewhat frequently, though e-vehicles are not the ruling norm yet.
Also, that one is 100% made in France, from design to manufacturing.
So I kinda like it.

I have a hard time believing that the Ford f-150 is the top seller in Pittsburgh. Pretty sure that it's also gotta be a Honda CRV or Toyota RAV4 or one of those small crossover SUVs.

Riverside, Seattle and Vancouver too.

Portland is the only major metro on the west coast where the top selling auto is not the Model Y, up there, the Toyota Tacoma is #1, but apparently the Model Y is #3

Philadelphia and Oakland have this in common

Kinda ironic that the West Coast is keeping Tesla alive.

From my experience, there are a lot of people out there who separate Elon from Tesla and just like the cars because they are relatively affordable, have plenty of charging infrastructure and gas is outrageously $$ out there. Particularly California.

Add Subarus and you're describing Toronto where the RAV4 is king according to this list.

It's been my observation in the Greater Los Angeles area that many Hispanics/Mexicans/Mexican-Americans drive Nissans/Nissan products (like Infiniti)... so the Mexican cities on the list with Nissans being the top sellers doesn't surprise me.

The Chevy Malibu does not seem correct for St. Louis. CR-V or Rav4 maybe?

It seems the complete opposite on the East Coast.

I think much of that has to do with climate, at least with Northeast. My brother wanted a Tesla but decided against it because the batteries don't do well in cold weather. My father has a plug-in Prius and he complains the mileage takes a hit in the winter. Plus, gas is a lot less expensive there.

They are some of the worst cars on the road right now (transmissions made out of glass) along with Hyundai/ Kia and Jeep.

Nah, it's specifically about Tesla. They were selling very well around here prior to 2025, but I barely see them parked on the street anymore. I see a lot of Tesla Ys in NYC because they're popular taxi fleet vehicles, but they might not even be the most popular fleet EV anymore. The Fisker Ocean has exploded in popularity as a fleet car since last year.

Other than the Model Y, the only Tesla I see on a daily basis is the ridiculous looking Cybertruck. But I mostly see the same two Cybertrucks that are owned by people in my neighborhood. The Model 3 was once by far the most popular EV in NY but I never see them anymore.

My only point of reference is really Upstate which is very different than the City.
