[Halifax] Robie + Cherry (1756 & 1816 Robie) | 2x34 M | 2x10 FL | U/C

These developments have been discussed in the General Updates thread for the last couple of years but I figure two 10-storey buildings with 235 units total going up on a major arterial justify their own thread. Fast facts;

1756 & 1816 ROBIE STREET - 2 X 10 FLOORS - 115 & 120 UNITS - J2K PROPERTIES

These are the two construction sites at the intersection of Cherry Street.

Photos from February 2026. Note that #1816 has since reached ground level and I have updated photos scheduled for this week.

I've noticed in pictures that even just the one building by Tony's has changed the feel of this area, both Robie and the periphery of the Commons. It's going to be hugely different when all these projects are done and there's a corridor of midrise buildings with clusters of highrises around Quinpool and Almon.

I hope the city gets this BRT corridor up and running soon and then looks at LRT or streetcar service. It makes a lot of sense with the hospitals, universities, residential, and all the ongoing development. This corridor could also connect to a Spring Garden Road transit mall and service out to Clayton Park.

Given the amount of units that will come online on the Robie corridor, the city absolutely needs to prioritize higher-order transit here. A streetcar/LRT is more permanent than BRT, but either solution that can offer a high-capacity, 10-minute service up and down Robie will make living along the corridor quite compelling.

If they can "future-proof" BRT corridors to LRT/Tram in the future then perhaps it's the best long-term plan. BRT in the short-medium term and upgrade to LRT beyond that.

It's incredible. I was on the 8 Bus heading from downtown yesterday observing the amount of builds surfacing, plus the hospital work of course.

Similar feelings along Windmill where I was driving through and counted 6, maybe 7 (!!) developments from its Burnside transition towards downtown Dartmouth.

Construction Management Plans are available for both these now, with renderings. There were a few other projects posted today.

1816 Robie

1756 Robie
