Edmonton is blessed to be a city of over 1 million people and Metro area of around 1.7 million that's still
affordable for the
typical worker. I'm totally bullish on Edmonton even factoring in its downsides.
Some of the lowest rents and for purchase condos in Canada, even new build SFH are still reasonable compared to even Calgary. According to
Zumper's
Canadian Rent Report, Edmonton 1 bedroom apartments are roughly 29% cheaper than Calgary and 14-15% less expensive than even Winnipeg!
For relatively high cost environment, what costs are you referring to?
For going out and having fun, I recall restaurants and bars being around 15% cheaper in Edmonton than equivalent places in Calgary. Not sure about grocery prices but Calgary seemed to be 15-20-ish percent higher than southern Ontario.
Edit: just realized the 2025 pop. estimate for city of Edmonton was 1,238,295. Roughly 100k larger than I thought it was.
