That’s kind of amusing, as Joe Clark lost the 1980 election partly due to anger over a proposed 18¢/gallon tax increase, which works out to around 4¢/litre.

From research done when Alberta's taxes changed twice in a year, and when the carbon tax was dropped nation wide, the prices changes are passed through almost entirely.

As for oil company profits, they are taxed. At current price levels, for oil produced in Alberta the tax is about 65% of profit from producing the oil, 23% of the profit for refining the oil, and then PST and GST at the pump.

Ouch, I saw $2.25/l at stations this morning.

I suspect Warren and our other EV forumers are laughing all the way to the bank at this rate!

Every time this topic comes up I tell people to buy an EV but they never listen.

Meanwhile BC Hydro keeps coming up with new fee structures that reduce my fueling cost. I spent $13 on car fuel during the month of April. 4 years on and according to my car I've saved about $5k in fuel costs.

On the other hand, my groceries are all still driven to the supermarket via diesel trucks from a farm or factory which also depends on ICE vehicles. Same with anything else I buy really so it's not all sunshine and rainbows.

That's true but I do see more and more local deliveries in EVs. It's too bad the Brightdrop was discontinued. I do see Rivian vans here now though, for Amazon so far.

I haven't seen any Rivian vans but I was noticing the uptick in Brightdrops, the Carter dealership at Lougheed and Willingdon always had a few on display. I didn't realise they had been discontinued, that's a shame.
