While the 1923 AI video adds color to old Los Angeles, I recently re-watched Harold Lloyd's 'Safety Last' where you can see genuine moving images of street scenes from 1923. I think I'll give AI a miss.

I myself do not like AI on anything, however if you do not dwell on some mistakes and use it as a better idea of how L.A. was it is great. I am in my 80's and remember some of the buildings and have been in some also. I only use it to see colorizing and motion that B&W photos do not provide.

Yes! I saw a 100th Anniversary screening of this at the AMPAS Museum a couple years ago, with remarks from Suzanne Lloyd, his granddaughter, and a full orchestra. It was great to see a silent film with 1,000 people, a sold out audience.

I went to just one screening at AMPAS in 1984. It was for Fritz Lange's Metropolis set to a score by Giorgio Moroder. (maybe I've already told you guy this) I believe there were plans to re-release the movie into theaters. After the screening I was introduced to Jodie Foster. I didn't recognize her at first because she was wearing a babuska and cat glasses. (she was there with a girlfriend who was dressed the same way) I remember I was shocked when my friend said, "This is Jodie Foster." (then I recognized her voice) Folks, I don't usually name drop but there you have it.



This 1984 version -with Moroder's score- is available on YouTube. (for some reason it's a blank screen -with no sound- for the first .32 seconds)

Visually, this is the clearest print I've ever seen.

As expected Moroder's electronic soundtrack is extremely dated now (after 40 years!)
Surprisingly, I had forgotten all about the songs with lyrics that Moroder inserted into the film.

I think they may have been standing outside the Pantages on Hollywood Boulevard. The "Herbert R Pulver" sign (above the streetcar on the left) in this 1935 photo seems to match the original. You can see the building better in this view. The 1935 CD listing says:

PULVER HERBERT R, Dodge Brothers Motor Cars and Trucks and Plymouth Motor Cars, 6250 Hollywood Blvd.

The Nash Bestor Company (Automobile Dealers) was at 6150 Hollywood Boulevard in the 1935 CD.

I haven't been here in a couple of years, but happy to see that the forum is still alive and well. I'm still working on identifying filming locations and was wondering if anyone could help me again.

This time, it's a Los Angeles building used as a hospital on various TV shows. My first screen grab is from "Knots Landing" (1985) when the building was repainted brown. The second screen capture is from "Scarecrow & Mrs. King" or "Falcon Crest" (both shows used the same shot — apparently stock footage from elsewhere) when the building was white.

I have reason to believe the building might have been the previous Rancho Encino Hospital, formerly located at 5333 Balboa Boulevard, Encino, CA 91316; it was demolished in 1990, and was redeveloped into residential buildings, with the new hospital having moved one block north. I have been unable to find pictures of that old location from the 1980's to verify.

Any ideas? Thank you so much for your help and Happy New Year to everyone!

The Dodgers never played in the Rose Bowl, but I guess it looked that way for a while because the Coliseum Commission was insisting on putting
home plate in the peristyle end of the Coliseum, which Walter O'Malley objected to because batters would have to look west into the sun:
