Columbus is incredibly small.
I went down there about ten years ago.
It made Macon, Montgomery, and Athens look like metropolises.
I know a lot of good people from there, so no hate.
But I don't know how the population is as high as it is.
I kept thinking "Where is everybody?"

This is a very odd characterization. Practically, the only thing Columbus and Atlanta have in common is that they're in the state of Georgia.

So if you take Atlanta and subtract all of its major business districts like Downtown, Midtown, Buckhead, and all of the neighborhoods around the BeltLine line Inman Park, Old Fourth Ward, West Midtown, and so on, then it's ... boring? Yeah, that tracks, but since that version of Atlanta doesn't exist in the real world, what value does it bring to the conversation?

It's just nonsense. Gwinnett county alone has 3 times the population of the entire Columbus metro area.

Columbus is not small at all. The city covers the whole Muscogee County seat and then there is one of the largest military bases in the world, formerly Ft Benning, now known as Ft Moore (I think). People often underestimate the pull of Columbus as a military and college town. The city is surprisingly diverse and large, as a result.

Ok, I see that I've offended some folks here, but my observation is relative to my lived experience in those areas. As a concession, I'll say that Atl reminds me of a larger Charlotte, rather. There, that should soothe some of y'all over...lol.

I'm sure your comparison didn't offend anyone. It's way too ridiculous for that

I mean, I don't hate Columbus. I've got good friends down that way. But the comparison was kind of silly. Columbus beats Atlanta in at least one way: the riverfront. Ours is an industrial mess.

Charlotte is a good comparison. North Carolina is the state that's the most similar to ours.

Charlotte is a good comparison. North Carolina is more similar to Georgia than any other state is.

Or - It's just YOU.

From my observation, you seem to interject/promote Columbus even when it's unwarranted or a stretch. And it's great to remember/respect your hometown. (Hey Valdosta, Hey Tallahassee).

Of the Georgia MSAs, if I had to chose one that 'feel' like Atlanta (which is a stretch in itself), I would say Macon-Warner Robins over Columbus - or even Augusta.

Anyways, I don't like the premise of the original post - Let Atlanta be Atlanta. Like we all should do: Let her realize her talents and shine her light without trying to be like someone else.

Columbus' riverfront is pretty awesome. It's a major asset.
