I would say close to 400ft if not alittle taller.

Yeah, it probably is at least 400 feet. I counted 37 floors in that rendering. Remember, the article said that tree was around 75 feet tall.

Oh, and I sent an email to someone at Cousins, and they said the office tower at Colorado & 3rd is still in the design phase and that they aren't releasing the details until they're finalized.

Well what do you know. The building could work with the tree! What a surpirse! Proof that developers can make work what they want to make work. So it was all bull shit that the project wasn't "feasible" with the tree.

Imagine that a tall building AND a tree! Amazing.

I would love to see what kind of complaint the planning and zoning commission will make up now though... Developers can make things work if possible but its also the commission and people like Morrison and Tovo that cause a lot of headaches as well.

I was gonna say - there was another thread on this building here

In Reply #15 on October 12, 2011 you noted that

in a 3 to 4 vote the planning commission has struck down the 5th and Bowie Tower.
But if you read that blog entry (and the url has changed, btw) it says

we’ll merely announce that we have contracted for the 311 Bowie project in Austin, Texas with HKS. Not only do we get to team up with HKS once more, but we finally get to collaborate with TBG Partners as well, so we’re pretty excited about that!
To me, that sounds like the city has already made a final decision (in favor of the developer.)

Another ground breaking

I noticed this on my bike tonight...

Soon, it'll be this mixed-use building. This will be especially good for Spring residents....seeing as how they have no real ground floor retail.

I don't like Austin Java changing format. We need more diners and deli's downtown bad. Not less. Sucks.

I guess I misunderstood the article, I thought basically they would be serving a larger food menu and just add live music, if it is completely replaced then I agree, the Austin Java works great there.

From what the article says, "Owners of Austin Java want to change the popular coffeehouse in City Hall to a more full-service restaurant and live music venue called Lickona’s." I used to work at that Austin Java and....I'd like to see this happen
Mr. Glass, where are you to comment on this??? Migol?

We're on the same page Michael....I've heard 2nd street is in the works for a 24 hour diner.

I <3 Lickona. It is impossible for me to hate anything with his name on it. Especially something like this. =)

He is a bit of a hero to me.

that place sounds awesome! there really isn't any live music venues on 2nd street. i know that lambert's and malverde have a music stage, but those are the only one's. i think it's a great fit and will only add to the 2nd street vibrancy. i'm excited to hear this.

i'm not sure if austin java and jo's hot coffee competed for patrons but this move would certainly set them more apart.

Agreed. To me, this sounds like a future breakout spot for emerging artists. Sort of like a mini ACL. I'm all for it and hope it happens.

Is that from the developers website? I really want this project to happen, so I hope your right that the city does support it. If thats the case then that should be a new rendering of the building.

Yea, it has to a new rendering since it includes the tree. If I remember right this was the only thing holding this project back and they were gung ho to get this started so we could see something happening there soon. Also, is there any reason why there can't be a new thread started using the list that Bevo compiled??

I agree, also we should post all these new renderings in the proposals section of ssp, I like to see what people from other areas have to say.

Do y'all want me to copy my list and post it in the other section? Or I could just ask a mod to move it. My only fear is if a mod moves it then I won't be able to maintain it anymore and the list will be stuck at whatever it looks like today. I don't know what the rules on that are, so I just put it in the Austin forum.

Personally I kind of like it being in the Austin forum. I think all of y'all, the Austin forum members, are awesome. =) But I guess it would also be nice to get more outside Austin input as well.
