I really hope this isn't dead. I love the density of that area.

Yep. And I think the tree in the render is supposed to be the pecan tree. The angle of the render and where the tree is in the picture is exactly the back part of the property where the tree that caused the huge dust up actually is.

AMERICAN-STATESMAN STAFF

Prospects for a new teaching hospital that could support a medical school and a new way of delivering health care in Austin took a giant leap forward Saturday with the Seton Healthcare Family saying it plans to pay for the new hospital: up to $250 million.

http://www.statesman.com/news/local/seton-to-pay-up-to-250-million-for-2318563.html
Perhaps this is not the place to ask this question, but something in that article confuses me and I was wondering if anyone could explain it to me. Does Seton's religious beliefs prevent it from providing birth control and such at its hospitals? It says they pledge to continue providing for low income woman's services at its clinics, but did they mean St Davids or all? Or is St Davids just where they do the sterilizations? I guess what I am asking is if they will provide woman services at the new medical school?

I have always liked Seton very much. But just want to be sure their religious beliefs will not get in the way of medical care at what will be a massive hospital that receives such large federal funding. And not just that but it will be a medical school where doctors are being taught and I would expect such issues wouldn't get in the way of what is being taught in such an environment.

Anyway, I have always been very happy with Seton. I was just kind of surprised to see that pop up in the article.

St. David's ≠ Seton

Don't forget SkyHouse on Rainey Street. Of all these projects, that is the one that is supposed to break ground the soonest. Otherwise, that is awesome!

Yes, I believe SkyHouse will break ground by this summer. Should be an attractive high rise.

Seton is a Catholic hospital, so they probably have some limitations as to what services they provide.

Thank you but I know that. I was not asking if they were the same hospital. Central Health which owns UMCB (run by Seton) does get that care from St. David's.

My question is about if Seton will continue running University Medical when the new medical school is built, if those services will be allowed at the new school.

Things are looking good for the near future. By 2015 the next wave of highrises will be well under way, the city proper population may hit 1,000,000 and the metro population should be over 2,000,000.

I made a little spreadsheet on units being built downtown and at UT/West Campus to see what sort of population growth could happen downtown just by the large projects proposed.

Just from the big projects that we talk about on here there are 5485 new units ( I guessed at a few, but probably guessed low).

For possible population of those I put in 2.1 for the dorms, 1.9 for apartments, and 1.7 for apartments described as luxury apartments. I came out with 10,255 new people downtown and in West Campus just from the big stuff.

This is the point where Austin needs to be reeeaaalllly smart and forward thinking about city planning. For example, any discussion about city transportation that doesn't involve rail is wrong.

I'd like to announce a new crane in town. I think its this project ACC OP West Campus at Nueces St. and W. 22nd St. SP-2011-0177C.SH should be about 175' to the top. 5 floors parking, 10 Dorm, 2 floors Apartments. total about 17 floors. I now have two cranes for buildings in west campus for around 17 floors each in my view as I work. This one is just like any other campus building but nice to see they are going up with these.

Yea, this is right on, these numbers cannot continue to grow without rail, IT NEEDS TO BE ON THE BALLOT THIS TIME AROUND!!!We are dangerously close to being too late on this and completely choking off downtown. With new offices going up some of those people would be choice riders coming from wherever to downtown. IMO the 2 biggest issues coming in the next 5-10 years that could make or break this city is transportation (traffic) and water...
