Toronto 2026

I've been doing some photos around the city and don't want to start a new thread for every area I profile, so decided to combine here.

The Annex (April 28, April 29 and May 2):

^And to think that the Toronto subreddit considers The Annex & Parkdale to be worthy of being levelled & redeveloped because they believe they're low density neighbourhoods & lack so-called "missing middle" housing. hah

They confuse form and substance.

So far I've covered The Annex (a long desirable district adjacent the University of Toronto known for its Victorian and Edwardian housing, mix of students, academics and cultural figures and affluent urban professionals), Parkdale (a neighborhood in the west end which contains a large immigrant and low income population and has a history of housing activism, where mid and high rise apartment blocks existed with leafy streets with Victorian housing), and Little Portugal (centered around Dundas and College Streets, and unlike Little Italy still has a visible ethnic presence in spite of gentrification).

Up next is Kensington-Chinatown, a very colorful and interesting half square mile area located just west of the CBD. I'll split the photos up into three subareas: the Grange area, centered around Beverley and McCaul streets and home to the Art Gallery of Ontario, Grange Park and the Ontario College of Art and Design (OCAD), a core Kensington-Chinatown area west of Beverley Street and centered around Spadina Avenue between Dundas and College streets, and then the Scadding Court/Alexandra Park area west of Spadina between Dundas and Queen, which includes the redeveloped/redeveloping Alexandra Park housing project, the 707 shipping container market and one of Toronto's oldest experimental theatres. This is a bit long, but there's a lot going on in the area.

Kensington Market is quite famous, known as the "Jewish Market" (and Spadina Avenue was the heart of the garment district) and later became known as a bastion of multiculturalism and a bohemian, countercultural enclave. It was Pedestrian Sunday when I visited.
