Interesting Facts/Records:
Mustamäe tee 159 (also known as Tammsaare tee 109) is a landmark 17 story residential highrise block situated at one of Tallinn's busiest intersections. Completed in 1975, this building holds a prestigious place in Estonian architectural history as the first high rise in Tallinn built using the large panel method. Designed by architect Helje-Reet Aurik as a unique, one-off project (ainuprojekt), it served as the experimental prototype for the "tower-block" aesthetic that would later define the skylines of Väike-Õismäe and Lasnamäe. Standing at 49. meters, the tower was strategically placed to act as a "visual dominant" for the Mustamäe district, breaking the horizontal monotony of the surrounding 5- and 9-story blocks. The building features a distinctive vertical rhythm and a robust concrete panel facade that has recently undergone extensive renovation, including complete insulation and a modernized color scheme, ensuring its prominence as a gateway to the Mustamäe and Kristiine districts.
