^ and this guy only scratches the surface, he left out all the ncr stuff --
ie., ncr invented the national sales force & training.
also later the japanese work culture as they toured it back in the day and were impressed (ie., employees did exercises before work at the famous ncr 'sugar camp' training center)
& lastly and imo the most famous thing of all via dayton ...
getting fired ... !
this saying started because of a real thing, when ncr let employees go they literally took your stuff out of your desk and burned it in front of the warehouse offices.

absolutely. it has held it's own better than most over time as the businesses are very diversified. that's my impression, anyway, coming from one of the devastated rust belter parts of ohio.
