Found St. Louis

I don't recall there being a general St. Louis found photos thread, so figured I'd start one.

Inspired by some photos from the real estate thread...

Thanks! I didn't work very hard to find them, though. Currently just making my way through the aerial photos of the various City neighborhoods on homes.com.

I guess? The city is pretty flat, but it gets hilly just west/south of the city. And there are some lovely bluffs to the north and south along the rivers. A number of these photos were taken in the winter, obviously, so the trees are bare. I mean, I don't recall Cleveland being particularly topographically feature-full either, apart from the lake?

Overlooking the Benton Park neighborhood:

https://www.homes.com/local-guide/saint-louis-mo/benton-park-neighborhood/

Note that Gravois Park and Benton Park are adjacent neighborhoods that share the Cherokee Street Business District, so some of the small business shots appear under both 'hoods. This is true for some of the school shots as well. I'm doing my best not to include the same shots under multiple neighborhoods, but some will slip through (especially if they're pretty).

Have you heard of the prairie Midwest?

St. Louis was built on a gently rolling prairie saddle between the Mississippi and Missouri River (St. Louis isn't quite as flat as the aerials suggest and there are actually some decent hills in the city limits). But, the geologic Ozarks start right in St. Louis County and there's a huge greenbelt that starts just a few miles down I-44 inside St. Louis County. Didn't make much sense to build in rugged topography when there was a nice, gentle, semi-clear area already right on the river. But, just a slight change in the path of the Mississippi through the Meramec valley and St. Louis might have looked more like Cincinnati.
