Custom Google Map

So I thought it would be cool if we started a custom google map that showed the locations of current construction projects downtown. I've already started one, and will work on updating in further, but I thought we could eventually begin to colloborate on it within the forum to keep it up-to-date and make it more comprehensive (providing links to the forum topics, for example).

Eventually, I was thinking that it could show details on existing buildings, ongoing construction, and proposals, much like SSP, but linked to their location on the map. Perhaps we could eventually so undeveloped sites downtown as well. Anyway, let me know what you think. Here's the link to the little bit I've done already.

Excellent idea.

How about adding Lebreton Flats?

Speaking of, I was in that area yesterday. The glass tower seems to be nearing completion...

I really recommend that everyone go grab the newest version of Google Earth and give it a try. It now has 3D buildings that are very competitive with maps.live.com now. Unfortunately unlike live.com it doesn't have Ottawa yet. Setting up 3D buildings to rough in the height of the new buildings on both live.com and Google Earth is relatively simple and I will look into when I get some spare time. It is trivial to set up an evolving "3D Warehouse" for Ottawa.

Here is a screen of Ottawa as it exists in maps.live.com at the moment (source: my flickr):

Okay, I just did a chunk more. I think some of the locations I marked may be incorrect, so some peer-review would be appreciated from those who know more than I. I set it so anyone can edit, but I'm not really sure how that works, so if anyone runs into any problems, let me know.

Also, the terrain view really shows the locations well.

Cool.

A couple of recently completed ones in Gatineau could be added - Domaine des Trembles

http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&h...21,-75.762995&spn=0.003531,0.006963&z=17

And Les Jardins Notre Dame on the corner of St-Joseph/Amherst:

http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&h...816,-75.73377&spn=0.001765,0.003482&z=18

There are more sites near Maloney / Greber in the old city of Gatineau, perhaps Acajack or gatt or someone else can show the exact location... I'm not too familiar with that area.

The site for Park Place should be moved a block to the left. that was my goof if you were going by the map I posted in that thread.

Isn't the Place de Ville III proposal on the empty lot at Queen and Kent?

Two more to add that come to mind are the Teron Somerset Gardens project at 138 Somerset Street West which is partially occupied and the Aga Khan facility at Sussex/King Edward area.

I was a little bit confused about the proposal. I vaguely recall that there was something proposed for 300 Sussex as well, but perhaps that's not part of Phase III. In any case, I made the change; you'd definitely know better than I.

I've added the Delegation of the Ismaili Imamat; however, I believe I already have Somerset Gardens, although I may have placed it in the wrong position.

Let me know if I made the correct changes, esp. with Park Place, Harls.

They are in the correct locations.

Somerset gardens should be the next white building to the right... you can still see the crane sticking out onto the street.

Parc place is correct!

How about 199 Slater and the completed Telus building now?

edit - and Standard life phase III

You are right...Somerset Gardens is u/c in the photo...likely taken sometime last April (construction started on Somerset Gardens about June 2006 and in the Google imagery you can see the remnants of ice on the canal but no snow anywhere else and no leaves on the trees).

The area that is highlighted is St. John the Evangelist Church. Somerset Gardens is on the former church pkg lot.

Nice work.

Can you add Domicile's "g" at Bank between Strathconna and Patterson.

There's also a crane or something near the intersection of King Edward and Somerset east of the U of O - probably the project in Sandy Hill, Mille Sabords mentionned.
