The website says 161 units, but the billboard says 167... the billboard shot is from April 30, though.. so things might've changed.

I don't particularily like this project. I find it takes away from the Village-esque feel of Boul. St. Joseph.

It's certainly imposing. I think the entire street is zoned for these kinds of projects as it's a main commercial artery. Further down the street there's a taller 70's era apartment complex (Blackburn) and a 21-storey government building (Place Vincent-Massey), which totally look out of place for the area. Oh well.

That Boulevard needs a BIA to help preserve and encourage it's village-like feel.

There is so much potential.. like I mentioned before in another thread, this street could be Gatineau's answer to the Westboro strip.. there's already a plethora of specialty shops, a mall, a grocery (with underground parking, even!).. I never see the sidewalks full of people here, ever... it's just waiting to happen. Maybe an influx of old farts might change things, who knows.

maybe, but I'd like to see a BIA for the boulevard as that will be the beginning of change. The rest would be up to the residents.

One thing that always makes me feel sad in Hull is that the city has so much potential, but needs real visionaries and leaders to get her there.

Probably because of the cheaper house rates on that side of teh river. The downside is higher utility tax I believe...

Can you confirm that, harls? I'm afraid I don't know too much about housing in Gatineau.

I don't know why it is.. This Groupe Melior has pretty much identical properties going up near the Gatineau Hospital, just on a larger scale. Gatt and Cre47 seem to know more about it than I do.. I hardly ever venture east of the Gatineau river.

There are a number either in the planning, construction or renovation stage in Ottawa as well. It appears as though for seniors residences that there are a few players who are getting larger by buying out small 1 home operators (often family run seniors homes).

I must admit that my knowledge of the Quebec side is sketchy at best, but I have yet to see an area like the Glebe, Westboro, New Edinburgh etc. Pedestrian friendly places with lots of street traffic, main street look w/o major chains just doesn't seem to exist in 819. Alymer near the British Hotel has a bit of that, but I never see people walking from store to store.

Aylmer, Place Aubry and Boulevard St. Joseph are the closest things Gatineau will ever have to Westboro.

the Village of Wakefield sort of has a bohemian vibe to it.. and it's very anglophone up there. I stayed at a bed and breakfast there and the hostess couldn't speak French.

True, but it is a real village hidden away in the hills, not a "village within a city".
