Build this. Right. Now.

A very nice and welcome departure from the blandness that has always plagued Canadian cities. Very visionary, very ambitious.

I am enamored by these designs and I wish that this beautiful complex be built. But not at the cost of violence, social degradation, and economic despair that a downtown casino run by a Las Vegas consortium will bring. This is a great proposal, but we need ironclad municipal by-laws to regulate this casino, its hours of operation, its procedures for safeguarding security of patrons and their condition, and a revenue share agreement to fund city initiatives like transit and infrastructure improvements, as well treatment and prevention of gambling addiction. I'm all for development, but lets make sure this is a smart development. Lest we forget, we live in one of the greatest cities in the world, one I would not trade for living in New York, Chicago, LA, HK or any European capitol (ad I have lived in many), so let us continue to make smart development decisions and preserve our way of life, which is far more important than a building.

Let us keep this thread to discussions about the actual buildings. There is another thread where the merits of a casino can be discussed. Many posts have already been cleared from this thread to that one. Please lets not give the mods more work to do.

Does Toronto Need A Casino?

Though the twins are beautiful, I got to say that the hotel looks even better. Amazing job by the architects.

Also, it seems that there is only one hotel now instead of the two that were shown in the earlier renders. Too bad, I wouldn't mind twin hotels as well as those twin condos.

I'm not so sure there is now only one hotel tower. I think it's just the angle of the images. I would suspect that the second hotel twin is hidden from view by one of the supertall office towers. We could do with a rendering from the west side to see for sure.

I see two hotel towers from the view of the rail deck. But that is the old rendering.

However, its in the current PDF with these new renders.

Thanks for the pdf link. Makes for good reading.
I find it intriguing that in the same document there is different designs illustrated for the hotel towers. I appreciate that this is probably just for massing purposes, and the final design of the towers is long off, but it still puzzles me the lack of consistency between various renderings on different pages.

It was a bit strange that they didn't bother to change the original rendering that depicted the hotels as basic cylinders. I'm assuming the latest renderings are closer to where they're at presently and the originals were more place holders than anything else.

Notice the twin super talls are now slightly different as well. The originals looked like copies of Foster's Manhattan proposal and were likely just substituted in while real renderings and designs were being developed.

I love the new hotel design, especially the podium . It has such a 60's space age feel. It could be a true icon for the city.

The office towers are gorgeous but they almost seem more international and commonplace. Yes, Im pretty spoiled to make such a statement.

The pussies on council like Adam Vaughan better not screw this up.

If this proposal gets shot down by the city council and the opponents; I will personally drive to Toronto and visit every opponent of this project as well as the councilors who voted against this and give them an ass kicking they will never forget.

This proposal looks amazing. Only 2.5 million square feet in those two 1070' foot towers though? They look more like 3.5 million. I like the space age podium. I guess this is all preliminary but I really hope it gets built out!

We'll see, but you might have to pack your bags. I'll join you and Redkey for the beatdown.

If not more than 3.5. First Canadian Place is 2.7 mill sq. ft. all by itself.

I think this is easily the most exciting redevelopment proposal in the city's (probably the country's) history.

As much as the Foster design appeals to the skyscraper geek in me, and the economic impact of the project is potentially so massive.... I'm actually most excited about the connectivity issues (though clearly not a firm promise):

the possibility of 1600 east/west feet of decking/park over the rail corridor (which will require nightmarish discussions with rail stakeholders) is easily the most transformative public realm concept in downtown's history.

Renounces agnostic atheism, and kneels in prayer.

The PDF says the 2 towers will have 2.5 million sqft of office space, but nothing about residential space.
