You can see the grocery store taking shape. The hole for the 26 story tower is really deep! Also, the windows on this one are so large the would be illegal on the Ottawa side

Fock. I used to live on Carillon right behind here in 2006. I would have loved to have a grocery store so close..

Is this a condo, or a rental apartment building? You can tell the difference by the size of the windows, and then round up 20% for Quebec because energy is cheaper there.

I estimate the 26 story tower will be Gatineau's third tallest, slotting between Place du Portage I and Place du Portage II. Interestingly, it will be invisible from most Ottawa views because of the mass of Les Terrasses.

Wish they would build a new tallest behind Terrasses.

I just realized that this will likely be the tallest residential building in Gatineau, and only the fourth one to crack 20 stories after Viu2 (2022 - 24fl), Tour Notre-Dame (Circa 1975 - 23fl) and Le Neufchatel (1977 - 22fl).

Le Columbia in Hull is 20 floors, so make that 5th.

I have blocked Le Columbia from my mind, so I don't see it.

Funny how the west side of Ottawa's CBD and Little Italy have lots of density and residential towers and no full grocery store, yet this pocket of Hull - arguably short on density and residential towers (compared to Ottawa) is getting one.

Wonder if we will continue to see more mid and high rise developments on the island of Hull.

I am not sure how these areas of Ottawa compare but getting a grocery in downtown Hull has been a priority for the city of Gatineau and much of the business and civil society community for many years.

I doubt that that much effort has been put into getting a grocery store for these parts of Ottawa.

The west side of the CBD doesnt have that many people, and Farmboy and Independent are less than 1km away. This grocery store is around 2km away from the nearest one.

Little Italy is denser, but it has more local food options and the overall population isn't that high (yet).

The island of Hull has over 10k residents now and it's growing fast, with like one corner store that has broccoli.

Its not quite the same in my opinion. Sure there is no real grocery store in little Italy or west centretown but there's a lot of specialty store where you can find a whole variety of italian food like pasta/sauce/cheeses you'll often find some vegetables and there's a full Asian grocery store (Kowloon) where again you'll find specialty items but also fruits and vegetable. Hull Island on the other hand they've got nothing

Ile de Hull and Little Italy have a similar journey when it comes to grocery stores, or lack thereof. Both had been promised grocery stores many times by developers that never came to fruition. Nuovo, the one on Rochester that was never built. W/E I. Viu II has a Bottega, which is something, I guess. SoBa in Centretown was supposed to get a Farm Boy, but the retail space remains empty.

I'm starting to miss the days where Shoppers popped up at every street corner.

As others have said, Little Italy has many specialty stores, but that's not where you'll get tooth paste, toiletries and Coca-Cola. They have one or two pharmacies, but I don't know how much grocery stock they have.

What's crazy to me is the density of grocery stores in car-centric low density suburbs while walkable urban areas have few options within walking distance (don't want to carry a 12 pack of toilette paper and a couple bags of groceries kilometers away).

Radio-Canada just said that the city councillor for the Vieux-Hull told them that there might be additional grocery store announcements for his district (in addition to the one that will soon be announced for the WE II).

Within about 3 km of my house I have 2 IGAs, 2 Metros, 1 Maxi, 1 Super C, plus Costco and Walmart that also sell groceries, 4-5 ethnic groceries, 2-3 small fine food groceries, maybe 4 pharmacies that have grocery section, and a half-dozen dépanneurs.

Last time I checked Zibi was still promoting a future grocery store on the ground floor of Block 7.
