Ile de Hull and Little Italy have a similar journey when it comes to grocery stores, or lack thereof. Both had been promised grocery stores many times by developers that never came to fruition. Nuovo, the one on Rochester that was never built. W/E I. Viu II has a Bottega, which is something, I guess. SoBa in Centretown was supposed to get a Farm Boy, but the retail space remains empty.
I'm starting to miss the days where Shoppers popped up at every street corner.
As others have said, Little Italy has many specialty stores, but that's not where you'll get tooth paste, toiletries and Coca-Cola. They have one or two pharmacies, but I don't know how much grocery stock they have.
What's crazy to me is the density of grocery stores in car-centric low density suburbs while walkable urban areas have few options within walking distance (don't want to carry a 12 pack of toilette paper and a couple bags of groceries kilometers away).
