While I somewhat agree with your premise, I actually enjoy Montreal's skyline as is. It's not a haphazard mess of towers, it's a meticulously well designed skyline deliberately stunted in height, and lengthened linearly. Now, it's in the process of widening at the same time. The appeal of MTL's skyline is the layering of visual styles, a slow build up of scale, from the edges to the centre. Rather than having a single pinnacle feature, we've got multiple marquee skyscrapers, all of good quality, with generous spaces between them. As the skyline grows, individual towers remain visible and present. That adds a sense of individuality that is quite pleasing to the eye. If we do the pinnacle style like Edmonton, then we've lost originality. Let's accept what we have and where we're going with it.
I would however like to see a whole new and different skyline that is more in line with what you suggested in Laval, or the south shore.
