Other posters have pointed out that Brentwood is a little too underbuilt to work as a future interchange, so in this case a detour makes sense,
BUT otherwise you want all the density and all the transit in one big central hub in order to maximize ridership and limit the amount of one-stop Brentwood-Gilmore trips. Same reason the terminus is at Metrotown instead of Patterson.
