I can't see an Ikea in Gatineau with one of the biggest ones in the world across the bridge and it would be unprecedented for a metro our size to have two.

I thought it would have been one of those mini-IKEA pickup locations they have been rolling out.

The expected completion date for this Costco is August. I go to the Beer Store, Canadian Tire and Shopper's Drug Mart there frequently and this has been going fast once they got started. I can't see this going beyond September if they can't make the August deadline at the rate they are moving.

The new mini location concept is really targeted at extremely dense urban cores.

https://www.retail-insider.com/retail-in...an-format-concept-store-downtown-toronto

The collection point locations are only in metro areas that don't have a store, with the exception of downtown Toronto. I can't see them putting one in Gatineau when the Ottawa store is a 23 minute drive. But then, who knows...

Ugh... Blair/Ogilvie is already a mess of an intersection. Not looking forward to the traffic impact of vehicles trying to turn left from Ogilvie to Blair in order get on the 174.

Likewise peeps trying to turn left onto Ogilvie after leaving the store. Hope they have a lot of patience.

It might be easier to turn right and get on the 174 at Montreal. I hope the Costco has a second entrance/exist at Elmlea Gate.

Yes, the Elmlea intersection already exists, and is the main access point to the new Costco Gasbar.

I hope the current Costco site at Innes and Cyrville is demolished. The city should never have built retail on that stretch of Innes. They built the Blackburn Bypass to make Innes a high speed thoroughfare for South Orleans but then ruined it by clogging the end by the highway with big box retail. We can't fix it but we can definitely make sure one business departure doesn't get replaced.

It’s to be turned into Costco’s corporate office, no?

No their corporate office's are on Hunt Club. I heard it was going to become a Costco Business Centre.

And I don't see any reason why they would want to or need to move their corporate office at this point.

Thanks for that. It should already be an improvement over the current location.

If the old Costco does become a Business Centre, that should reduce the volume of the new building off Ogilvie, even if just a little.

I'd never heard of a Costco Business Centre. In California, we could get into Costco earlier because we were business members, something I wish we had here in Canada.

The new location doesn't work as well for me, I drive by Cyrville on a regular basis and have developed my own hacks for easy in/out of the parking lot. Since Covid, I've only had to lineup once. There was a crazy line up to check out on July 3, but there were actually 2 linesups, one on each side of the store and the second lineup was actually 1/4 the length of the first one so it was only 8 minutes until I was at the cash.

If it becomes a business centre, I'll check it to see if the stock selection works for me and continue to use it. Unfortunately, this article (US based) says that regular members can use it too, so product selection will determine if it is less crowded than the new store.

I think we had this discussion, but here's a proposal near the Line 2's Limebank Station:

This is shameful - it's across the street from o-train yet entirely catered to cars...

I thought building these stations in empty fields was supposed to spur more urban TOD, but we're just getting more of the same.

Yeah, what the?

Could they not, at minimum, do a couple of mid-rises or residential above the retail (a-la Agora)?

So many residential projects get canned or refused by council, I hope this one doesn't get the green light as-is. It's time we demand better.

I very much agree. There's no way this should be approved. Embarrassing.

Here's the Devapp:

https://devapps.ottawa.ca/en/applications/D07-16-22-0010/details

I sent them a message expressing my frustration. I recommend you do the same.

It's mind boggling how we're investing hundreds of millions in rail for these fields getting developed into retail parking lots while denser and further densifying urban corridors line Rideau-Montreal and Bank get nothing.
