Only about 2-3 more floors left before it's topped out

I think having a conversation about the honesty of different architectural expressions is useful and insightful.

But if the above image is any indication, I'm going to LOVE how this building will look.

I think I'm going to like its appearance. If only I could hold that sentiment in my mind untainted by my knowledge of the building's conception...

this is going to look super sexy, who cares if it's a metal skin over a concrete structure?

Eh it kind of reminds me of the cheesy Dark Knight theming at Six Flags. It is no less fake:

For a neighborhood like Fulton Market that is supposed to mix authentic industrial heritage with cutting-edge modern architecture, food culture, etc, it feels out of place.

That's a bit harsh. I think the design is muscular and brawny in the best Chicago tradition. The detailing is a decent homage to the L structure and, now that I think about it, the historic storefronts at Tree Studio. It may not be "authentic," but I still like it.

Well, we are Gotham sooooo. This just adds to the mix in Fulton. Or should they all be new fake old warehouse looking buildings? I personally like it and the variety. I do not remember ever looking at a building and asking myself if the cladding is a fake representation of how it was really built. Just if it is quality or not.

I mean, what I said was "mix authentic industrial heritage with cutting-edge modern architecture". Not sure how you get "fake old warehouse" from that. That's exactly what I'm arguing against.

Anyway, most new building in Fulton Market have to address the industrial heritage because of the design guidelines in the landmark district. We've seen lots of different approaches to that, some are successful and some are cheesy, but we're never gonna get pure St Regis or BMO style modernism along Fulton/Randolph/Lake directly. A few blocks away though, it's anything-goes. 360 N Green is not in the landmark district and it's gonna be uber-sleek modernism.

Those simple accents rounding off the windows makes such a huge difference. I'm a huge fan of how this is turning out.

I apologize, I misread that.

The core has topped out and the formwork removed. I noticed on the Kennedy to Ike ramp this afternoon.

I don't think you are taking into account the volume of development taking place in Fulton Market. 900 N Randolph is only going to stand out in the skyline for a short time. It was only a few years ago that Nobu Hotel, which is barely noticeable now, seemed like an audacious proposal for Randolph St.

Yep - Agreed. For now though, it's fun to enjoy the prominence of this building, and it will be fun to watch the cladding go up over the next several weeks.

I feel like One Fulton will "crowd" this tower once its built. It's very close by and of a similar height.

Formwork looks topped out too. I assume there's mechanicals and a parapet still to go.
