I don't think think they'll remove it but I think they determined its unsafe for vehicles and theres no plans to fix it.

I would like to see it one day become open to pedestrians to access some sort of additional park on that island

This side bridge 'Trestle' was awesome when it was only barricaded with cones. Best way to avoid being hit by a car while on a bike crossing the bridge. So luxuriously roomy

I've been guilty of that on stroads with no bike lanes, but in often times, the stroads also have no pedestrians. But in the City, or anywhere with bike lanes, stick with your allocated space.

I'd like to see the Laval extension include a extension via pedestrian/cycling bridge to behind the Board Mill on Chaudiere Island East. It would have to make a turn around the planters and the stairs down to the river.

No there is definitely nothing about another bridge in the plans.
That narrow sidewalk on one side of Chaudiere crossing is the only connection.

But to be fair, building a separate bridge would probably be insanely expensive here given the river flow speed, depth, and width.

Figured as much, but was thinking maybe an extension to the current bridge to create a better connection between the Ottawa and Gatineau sides. But I fully trust in Dream and Zibi, they have been doing a good job so far. Even the viewing deck, focus on Chaudiere Falls as an attraction, focus on waterfront connections, and interzip are great because even though they are basic to implement, they are exactly what the area needs. Can't wait to see this area completed plus their Library district at LeBreton.

A pedestrian bridge wouldn't have to have any pillars in the water for a 200m span. The Three Countries Bridge has a longer span, looks great, and was built for the equivalent of $18M (2022 dollars) in 2008.

Whether or not it's done is one thing, but there's nothing about the location that makes a pedestrian bridge a particularly challenging idea.

I was thinking along these lines and figured it wouldn't be too difficult/expensive. Glad to see my hunch was right. Would really be nice to have that better connection within the Gatineau and Ottawa sides
