I did ride the light rail south of Uptown Charlotte and there was some more interesting newer urbanism around but the eastern part of the CBD that I've seen is just utterly empty all day long.

No. SLC is better.
I was in Charlotte about a year and a half ago to entertain a job offer. The South End, south of Uptown (Charlotte's downtown), has some interesting new development. Uptown has a really nice main street, but they have huge above-ground parking garages that are exposed on the block sides opposite of the main street that kill the street vibe.

I was in Charlotte just last week, stayed in Uptown. I have to say that I was very impressed with the area. Some of the highlights included:

- The streets were very active. I was there Friday night and all day Saturday, there were people out walking everywhere.

- It overall felt very clean, and not as many homeless as I've seen in other cities

- I walked through the Fourth Ward, which I believe is the oldest neighborhood, it's quiet and quaint and full of Victorian style homes , and directly adjacent to the busy downtown https://www.tripadvisor.com/Attracti..._Carolina.html

- We kind of stumbled upon Optomist Hall. It's a really cool old textile mill that has been repurposed to a food hall / public market https://www.charlottesgotalot.com/ar...irst-food-hall

I was much less impressed with Raleigh, however.

Noticed a small crew working on Astra today, looked like they were working on the elevator core area.

Astra Tower

I also walked by Astra Tower this morning, look like construction is going full bore. There was a lot a workers on site. I did notice the hole is still not fixed but the site of the hole is west of where the main tall tower will be.

Workers are back at Astra, though they appear to be working around the collapse.

It's hard to see in the pictures, but the collapse area is sectioned off with red tape.

As a bonus here is progress on the project on the corner of 500 W and 200 S with the old Central Warehouse. I believe it's called CINQ.

They started demo on the building today, probably will have it all down by the end of the week. If it's multi family housing, would mean a lot more density coming to that area with the Big Lots and Crown Burger developments just down the block.

I hope the project behind those cool historic mansions across the street is still a go.

Eventually, but not until Astra is done. They are using that area for work on Astra at the moment.

Apparently the hotel at the Gateway/Union Pacific Depot has broken ground.
