Are those beach shots Redondo or Manhattan? I believe they're the former (I've actually never been on/around that beach oddly) - but I like that the ocean appears to be calmer. I should try to check it out one of the weekends.

It is indeed Redondo. Why wait for a weekend? Take a half day or full day off from work and check it out on a weekday.

Away from the pier/wharf, along S. Catalina Ave, they have restaurants and shops. My partner and I eat there every once in a while. In fact I have pictures of that strip somewhere in this thread.

More South Bay! Redondo Beach is amazing, especially the South Redondo area you captured in your photos. The beach in that are is idyllic, and then you have all the restaurants and shops in Rivera Village. The contrast between South Redondo and the 6th St bridge opening in your photos really shows the range that LA has.

Personally, that's the best set of pics I've ever seen you post here. It really captures the look, feel or vibe of both coastal socal & a part of dtla.

I used to live around redondo bch & recall going up one of the streets at the crest of palos verdes. Homes along there have an airline view of the LA basin. I recall thinking if I ever lived in one of those properties, I'd stare at the view all day long & never get anything done.

Thanks for the comment!

I have a sentimental soft spot for Redondo Beach; it reminds me of my childhood. When I was a small child, my parents and my sis and I would go there a handful of times a year. My parents liked eating crab on the pier and then my sis and I would hang out at an arcade there that had carnival games like ski ball, foosball and air hockey, among other things, and a tilt-a-whirl. The arcade is now closed, I think it was called the Redondo Fun Factory. Memories.

I'm a native of LA & used to work in dtla. I've lived in various parts of the basin & have developed a soft spot for the various hoods of LA, from your area around south pasadena (never lived there but have visited it), to the south bay to the westside...as the randy newman songs goes. lol.

Also areas further to both the north & south. I've recently seen vids of areas like laguna bch to the south, malibu to the north. I dropped by malibu a few wks ago. I've seen what's going on in areas like Bev hills, brentwood, calabasas, etc, the parts of LA all around me. While familiarity is known to breed contempt, in this instance familiarity in the past has bred my taking the good things for granted. But it's also because areas like redondo bch are more nicely developed today than they were yrs ago. I recall when some of the properties around there were either parking lots or bldgs that weren't in great shape.

Great additions. The 6th street bridge looking good with the city in the backdrop.

Great Redondo set, I lived there as a kid. Took my son there about 3 weeks ago, just hung out and ate some food. Great memories of that beach and pier!

A few random shots... taken last night, Saturday, 7.30.2022.

Here's a plate I don't see often. I wonder what these people from Jefferson County, Iowa think of LA.

Hamantasch and coffee.

We were weirded out by this sign. Smoking was banned inside restaurants in California in the 1990s; I'm surprised this sign hasn't been removed.
