It already exists, under the name of Halsted Point.

omni's plans + casino and Lincoln Yards is going to really connect N and NW side neighborhoods.... leaving the 78 to the townhouse crowd

They'll fill in space, but I don't think they'll connect anything. Halsted point will still be a morass of river, grade changes, etc. And unless Lincoln Yards is fully pedestrian-permeable, it won't change much, either.

The site is adjacent to Halsted Point, but there's a chance it will be a separate development.

Tearing these buildings down literally doesn't solve their security "problem". Must be something deeper, and knowing how politics works in this state, it probably is.

Maybe OMNI has insider information that these lots will be cleared for a new hotel and available in 2024, but only to Fed approved secure developers

This smells like Illinois politics all the way. Pritzker saved one building last year, maybe he can save these two!!

I feel like AMLI 808 N Wells never got much attention. I really like the way it turned out.

I agree, that AMLI turned out better than expected. It fits in the surroundings with the redish lower section. That reminds me, gotta head over to Headquarters soon, been too long. Maybe a Funky Brunch is in the cards?

^ related, it's wild how Chicago Ave will have a skyscraper canyon stretching from the lake to the Kennedy by the end of the decade. Several infill highrises, Cabrini-Green's redevelopment, North Union, One Chicago, the casino, Halsted Point & Onni's purchase of the northern Tribune site. Fulton Market/West Loop is currently downtown's epicenter of construction, but in a few years that momentum might very well shift back north

Hate seeing developers tear down perfectly good buildings when this city is filled with surface/vacant lots, garages, and dilapidated buildings to redevelop.

The real loss was this rowhouse, but that's already gone:

I won't shed a tear for the fake "8-flat" at 12 W Maple next door.
