This intersection reminds me of the old Reads Corner in Summerside. Wayyy to much going on. They should have build interchanges at all of the major intersections on the bypass; at the Hospital, St. Peter’s Road, Sherwood Road, and Malpeque Road. Regular overpasses at Kensington road and Mount Edward Road would have sufficed.

If only Charlottetown would wake-up!! Too many NIMBY's in the 500 lot of our city. I hope it's a go or at least some of it!!

From this rendering, it looks like Stratford's skyline will be considerably higher than Charlottetown's. Its about time we start building true high rises. Enough 4-6 story, vinyl siding, year 2000 era units. I always get a kick when you see the siding being installed on a new unit and they decided a house-grade vinyl siding was the way to go.

City Breaks Ground on New Net Zero Building

A new Net Zero City facility is being constructed on MacAleer Drive in Charlottetown – the first of its kind in the Capital City.
The City of Charlottetown broke ground on the $6.2-million building yesterday (Thursday, August 26).

This building is under construction.

If you read the summary of the core plan these developers put together for Stratford, it outlines the need for more density, while acknowledging that what you're seeing in those photos in terms of height / density is a bit of a dream, it will require the town to create new zoning classifications. Currently, the town would not permit buildings that high.

So what we're seeing is a sales pitch, for sure. It'll be important for people in Stratford to ask candidates running for council next year A) what do they think of this concept, B) are they prepared to make changes to town bylaws and zoning rules to make it possible.

This plan will change Startford dramatically. Depending on what side of the debate you're on, that change will either be positive or negative. Personally, I think it's a positive change, and has the potential to spark a change in focus that would see Stratford outgrowing Charlottetown in the next 30 years.

Wasted Space

It is finished!!
This lot was never used as a parking lot. People used it as a roadway to get into Superstore or the plaza, a snowplow dumping site in the winter, for snowplow equipment
and parking trailers. A lot of expectations here with all the pretty parking lines.
I can't see much of that changing, along with all the garbage left behind after the snow melts. Very disappointing that the lot couldn't have been put to better use like increasing density with the now defunct Queensway Apts. I blame city hall as there was only one opposition to the development and the owners of this property (not APM). What a waste of space!!

Signage is now up at the soon-to-be restaurant in Buchanan Plaza by Mark’s Work Warehouse. I didn’t take a close look to see what the name says, but site plans in Plaza REIT’s website still show it as being called “The Local.”

That is the one that is owned by the Old Dublin group. Also Starbucks confirmed for Stratford.

The Local should do well with the University and area residents. Now they don't have to track downtown to sit back and enjoy a meal and a cold one.....and lots of parking.
Starbucks in Stratford doesn't surprise me, all those million dollar homes around there.

Great location for the people who work out there, but terrible location for getting cars in and out. This stretch of Mount Edward Road has become extremely busy over the last five years. Rather than adding yet another access point, the city should be looking at ways to route traffic to new traffic lights.

Ironwood Apartments??!!

There is something I can't understand about this one! Why not build it as two six storey or a single nine storey building that would have allowed green space between or beside the building instead of paved parking lots. Not one square foot is used for green space!! Oh sure there is grass separations but haven't we learned anything about the importance of green space? Stupid 4 storey attitudes are impacting this and we see this all over our city!!

My concern isn’t with cars lining up in the road waiting for drive-thru access, it’s the increase of vehicles turning left into and out of here. That stretch of Mount Edward is in serious need of attention. It’s pretty unsafe right now.

With so much shopping moving online, and a different bricks and mortar retailer filing for bankruptcy each week, it’s nice to see Canadian Tire doing so well, especially here on the Island.
