In all seriousness though, you and Mr. "Save the Pantages" only post pictures of the ceiling and the hallway so that people think it's in better condition than it is. I still think it's egregious that the facebook page has this image as the banner with no description.
If the piggy back structure were removed you’d see the ceiling in those pictures too. It’s a campaign to show what is still there and worth saving. For some reason you like to focus on the pictures that only show the destroyed segments. Seems your bias is for a tower, whereas my bias is for a restored historic theatre. I’m also following the city’s master plan, whereas you’re disregarding the masterplan and the public input already given that went into that masterplan.

Just eyeballing, but looks to be the same height when compared to the tree next to it

Astra

There are two trucks and a two-man survey crew on the Astra site this morning.

It's wild and sad to me that they couldn't find a place to relocate. Someone earlier in this thread somewhere said something about them relocating to Gateway, but I guess that didn't happen. At least the People's Coffee found a place, but what a sad day to lose one of our most prized nightlife establishments. I am not opposed to the tower, but I'm definitely sad about that.

Seriously we have lost so many unbelievable buildings to have this be the one that "really matters" is just trash. I'm now in the camp of BURN IT DOWN just so these threads stop melting my face.

Serenity now.

No, we don’t need to just move on because you say so. I respectfully disagree with your assessment of the situation.

I think the first render is a cleaner looking tower, the top of this render gives me Liberty sky vibes. I would like to see more renders to give an accurate assessment, but either will be nice and ultimately gives the east/west skyline more density!

I actually really like this new rendering. It looks like they really cleaned up the corners and squared everything off

I agree with this. I've been looking back and forth between the two and the first (old) render appeals to me more. I agree with the "Liberty Sky" vibe. I actually thought the same thing.

If we can get a fat lady to sing inside the theater can it be over???

Just a joke there my friend. No offense. I do admire your passion for the theater. It was a gem at one time for sure. I just think reality will take it’s course. There’s not enough money and people with your passion to save it. I don’t think anyone on here thinks the theater is worthless. I say let’s salvage as much as possible and reuse and restore what can be taken and replicated for future use by some motivated individuals. That would be an excellent goal at this point in the process and many would support that. Practical efforts might still be rewarded. Good luck. I’d love to have a piece of that history. Reach out to some artists and craftsman and see what can be done

Is there a way to block all posts from Old&New so I don’t have to see them anymore? So sick of seeing posts from that profile.

Oh and before you accuse me of being on the RDA, I also have been on this forum for 10 years and many more before I made an account. So don’t make yourself look stupid again, k?

I was lurking around on the Austin forum and saw this building, 405 Colorado, and it reminded me of the Sundial Tower. Along with having a giant parking podium and an angular design stacked on top, it's about the same height: 25 stories, 356 ft. Sundial will be 23 stories, 344 ft.

The big difference is that Sundial will have 425k sq ft while 405 Colorado apparently only has 210k sq ft, which is probably explained by Sundial's east-west width.

The final product:

The exterior lighting is also pretty cool. I hope Sundial has something like this:

There are several towers in Austin I wish were in SLC but this isn't one of them. Kind of sad when the Sundial is twice the square footage but still shorter lol. Sundial does have a much better integrated and significantly shorter podium however. The podium on the Austin tower is 14 stories of tacky IMO, too bad because the actual tower looks pretty good from certain angles.

Wow, I actually hate that building in Austin. I do, however, REALLY like the building in the rendering just to the right of it.

I would rather have people going on and on, on a subject to the point of annoyance than have the self appointed busybodies who jump on and demand all conversation stop on a certain subject because they are bored with it or because it doesn't fit the narrow subject matter they prefer to discuss on the forum.

You all know how to scroll, right? It's pretty easy. Just move right past what you don't want to see. Voila!

Finally started design work on a project in east south temple. Looking at the PDFs, it seems to be a mid to high density multi-family.

My wife and I were invited to the RSL match last night. One of the people also invited was on the city council. After the game I managed to get a couple of questions in. She confirmed that Astra was going up. Also that the theater is out. (Sorry proponents.) She confirmed what many of us were thinking: No possible way for the city to pay for a rehab. The Hines tower will be going up. I was not able to discuss details, timelines, or ask her about other projects.
