Great news about YYCcc approving the BMO expansion plan. Apparently there is an announcement tomorrow (Tuesday), with the province expected to fully back the project. Fed portion remains, but all expect that to be a thumbs up in due course.

This is a long build-out - 5.5 years, largely because they have to phase things so that the usual events can still take place. I suspect first piece will likely be hall F.

Uhhh.. Zoning. It's this concept where the city lets you building a building to a certain height and size. You can't go ahead and build an over sized house whenever you feel like it.

Could be larger, but it seems pointless, as the house already there is a good size. I can live it though, it's one large house being replaced by another, and not the end of the world.

But then there's this one. Taking out two large houses to build one larger house? I don't think the city should allow it, it's completely stupid.

These two lots are half the size of the lots on either side. They are outliers, and the neighbourhood needs to move to being more contextual. Once combined, they'll fit better with what is on either side of the two lots. We do not yet know what is being proposed for the joined lots, though up to 10,000sf is quite normal for the area.

From the article, it looks like there are no designs yet, but I wish they would have shared the proposed location and a general budget. Perhaps there are a couple options for location also, but usually by this point they have an idea, else the BoG doesn't have enough info to vote on.

UCalgary including the AHS and UCalgary pieces of the Foothills campus, has sure become a development hub in the city over the past few years.

I tend to agree. If they wanted to build a bigger house on the right hand lot, that’s fine. Combining the two lots is a waste, and contrary to what the city is trying to achieve.

Really 10,000 square foot houses are quite normal? How many houses in the area do you think are actually that large?

And no, once combined it won’t fit in better with the houses on either side. The hoses on both sides are of similar context to those houses they are going to tear down.

So let me get this straight. The neighborhood needs to move to being more contextual so were going to take out two houses that are in the same size range as its neighbors and building something twice as big to make it contextual?

This is very good news for UCalgary. The building that U of A built is fantastic, hopefully this one can follow in it's footsteps. Nice to see so many positive developments at U of C recently but they need to keep this up to maintain the pace and keep up with the big boy schools. Great news however.

There's plenty of room to build this in the NW portion of Campus where the other science building are. Either build in a new location or take down an older building and place (a la U of A when they build their CCIS building)
