I don't think anything's being built there. It's an auto dealership. Apple Auto IIRC.

How long has that been the case? I could have sworn it was there last time I went past there. Who's gonna sell Calgarians shitty cars now that they're gone?

I have never dealt with them and can't comment, but according to reddit comments - and I know you believe in those comments - Calgary Honda seems to be the worst.

Add me to the list of people not happy with Calgary Honda. I've used Village Honda couple of times in the past and never had an issue.

Although that house is a good replica of an Edwardian style architecture those railings are the exception, they are kind of cartoonish and as you point out the top ones don't even have a purpose it seems.

Apologies for this going off track (I wasn't the one to bring up car dealerships) but I do have to ask, is it something specific to Calgary Honda, or is it a Dilawri group modus operandi? I've had issues with a different Dilawri dealership, and there I noted that their staff was sourced from other dealerships within the group. That means if there are issues beyond character of a particular individual someone had bad luck with, it is likely pervasive across all their dealerships. In my case, it was a major multi-thousand dollar issue they found, which actually didn't exist once I called them out on it. The mechanic, supervisor and service rep were all synchronized on it, so that made me particularly annoyed. I have not been back.

Just Calgary Honda, however I do not know what other dealerships are under Dilawri group. I had work done by Calgary Honda, and it wasn't properly fixed and had to go back a second and third time. I insisted they shouldn't charge me as they were supposed to fix it the first time. After excessive arguing and debate they reduced the invoice.
A visit for a another issue resulted in a large bill, and a friend of a friend who worked at Village Honda, said the work was not necessary and could have been done cheaper. I went to Village Honda after that and had no issues.

Since then I have purchased a Nissan and have used Stadium Nissan without any issues.

Apple Auto is toast, and it's not a Vietnamese restaurant anymore. Nothing but fresh Rocky Mountain air.

Strategic Group to convert Barron building into residential rental units, instead of office space, as originally envisioned. Given the glut of vacant office space in the Calgary market, this is wise. And more residential downtown will add to the vibrancy!

Calgary developer sees new possibilities by converting office buildings into homes in the downtown core

By Doug Vaessen Reporter Global News

With a downtown office vacancy rate over 27 per cent, developers in Calgary are rethinking the best way out of a crisis.

Where others see obstacles, Strategic Group sees opportunity by converting office space into new homes.

After being vacant for years, the Art Deco classic Barron building on 8 Avenue S.W. between 5 and 6 streets will have 94 new rental apartments when it comes online in 2020.
