At Suburbia's neighbourhood community centre.

Thoughts on the 7st underpass being closed to cars between MacDonald Bridge and 9Ave?
http://calgaryherald.com/news/local-news...as-traffic-fears-stall-pathway-expansion

I think if they improve the road on 8St it will be ok, that stretch over the tracks is pretty brutal!

This is my usual entrance to the Saddledome when I go to games so personally it would suck if they closed it.

Really would be nice to relocate those bus barns.
I wonder if that land is valuable enough that the City could buy a cheaper plot somewhere and replace the building with the sale of the current site ?

As a long-term resident of Ramsay, I think this is a bad idea. I would rather them close down 8th st as it is pretty much useless due to how busy that train line is. I seldom if ever hit 9th via 8th st. If I'm heading downtown, I'll take 11th to 4th st. Coming home, I always take 7th as you avoid the the train and the traffic light.

For Ramsay to Downtown route, isn't that able to be handled by 4th Street SE underpass? Surely it has significant capacity to take any loss 7th Street. Or you could reduce 7th to 1-lane, 1 direction. Should give enough room to expand the path, while maintaining some access if that is necessary.

The article mentions cutting off access to 9 ave on 8 St in the future as well. I'd say they re right to cancel this until they can do a more in depth study.

I think 7th down to one lane southbound would be a compromise I could live with.

That underpass definitely wins the award for "piece of infrastructure that consistently makes you feel like you're about to be decapitated, even in a low Subaru".

I lived in Ramsay for about a year, and that underpass was essential. Of course, at the time I wasn't thinking of the 4th St underpass as a replacement... I could have lived with that as a permanent alternative when I was living there.

I see the potential downsides, but I think all of the inconveniences will be vastly overshadowed by the shear awesomeness of riverwalk. Ramsay will get more life blown into it in the next 5 years than any time in the past century.

I could live with a 1-lane compromise too.

I beg to differ. There was way more life blown in Ramsay back in the day.

Can't believe the first move ins are only a couple months away already. My buddy moving into first is expecting to be in there in July, around the same time St. Patrick's Island Park opens. Everything is falling into place in this neighbourhood

Yah, but I do feel a bit sorry for the first people moving in. East Village is one giant construction zone and will continue to be that way for years. There will be many mornings when you get woken up by the sweet sound of jackhammering...and the supermarket is years away yet. Don't get me wrong - I am sure that it will be great once everything is in place, but it is going to take a while to get there.

Yeah, I agree. Thankfully for my friend, he's in one of the north facing units in First, so the construction noise should be minimal.

I'm most looking forward to the Simmons opening this summer. That rooftop patio along the rivers going to be awesome.

Was surprised to see Pulse a good 10 floors above grade now, been flying lately. The buildings are impressive from across the river.

Pulse will be very prominent as you drive into downtown from Edmonton Trail, already quite noticeable and it still has 2/3 of the way up to go.
