Hello Scottk!

Yes, this is a new tallest, although only barely - by 3 feet. When it was originally proposed it was only supposed to be 15 floors, shorter than our current tallest. Then it was bumped up to 20 floors and then back down to to 18 putting it close to the same height as the US Bank building.

The 20-story version looked very attractive, kind of a shame they didn't go with that, but I'm really happy with the finished result regardless. It and JUMP ended a miserable 4-year drought of major development downtown.

I really like this view of the skyline from this park. Shows off the size of downtown Boise.

I like that view too, it is from the grounds around the old US Assay Building.

Here's another view from Castle Rock last October.

Not trying to be rude. Serious question...but why is this shutting down the street and getting the "cities largest party", and why is this such a big deal? It's only 18 floors.

Thanks.

Follow up on the history of the cursed old hole in the ground at 8th and Main and the story of how this tower became reality. Read the article that has been linked too.

We know how to party up here in Boise Most city parties include beer and wine flowing freely around the kiddies too and this one will as well.

I am looking forward to Treefort next month

it's not rude; that's a valid question for those not familiar with the background.

the lot for this tower has been empty for 25 years. there have been numerous proposals for it, but all of them failed for various reasons. there was even a story that the site was cursed by a chinese businessman who was forced out of the old eastman building on the site when the city tried to sell it.

construction for a 25-story building started on the site about 10 years ago, but then abruptly stopped because the developer went bankrupt. since then, the site has been a deep, ugly hole filled with rebar and debris… a scar on an otherwise great downtown.

boiseans didn't think the site would ever be developed until Gartner showed up and built this tower. given the history, a party to celebrate the completion is in order.

In addition to the history, this is a new tallest for Boise. I'd probably show up for the grand opening of a new tallest in SLC, if one is ever actually built. 18 stories in Provo would be a HUGE deal. The enthusiasm for the new building is great. It shows people care about development downtown.

Hopefully it doesn't rain on the party, the forecast is calling for rain but in the 50's. This building would also look awesome in Salt Lake City or Coeur d'Alene.

It would look good in SLC if the spire was not apart of the building if it were in SLC. The spire only works if it's the tallest building in the city. If that building were in SLC it would just be considered a "fill in" type building. It would be on the lower end of the height scale for SLC buildings. But yes, it would look good in SLC, minus the spire.

I think the same thing about buildings in LA. I think about how those older 14,15, 16, story buildings down town LA are kinda forgotten. If they took one out of their skyline no one would notice, but In Salt Lake, even at that level, it would be noticeable. I like it with the spire. I really like the lighting they added.
Makes it look really cool at night

I don't live in SLC but I do live in Ut and go to Salt Lake on regular basis. IMO this tower would fit in very well there. I would have to say that the spire side of the building is my favorite with all the glass and LED lighting effects. Congrats on a new attractive addition to your skyline!

Dude, enough with the provocative, backhanded "compliments". Just give credit for completing an awesome project.

Congrats Boise! We would love this in SLC and it wouldn't just be a fill in type building due to the unique LED lighting, spire and height. I really like the final product and it will add a ton to your downtown!

I agree Wasatch. I would love to see that building added to Salt Lake's CBD. Hey, we would be more than happy with it here in Los Angeles also, especially around the newer convention center area. A good looking tower, especially with an excellent corner engagement is welcome anywhere. Love the night lighting!
