City of Ottawa
August 23, 2013

- The painting of the large roof beams in the stadium continues; one beam over the north stands remains to be painted.
- Inside the Civic Centre, scaffolding is being built to facilitate repairs to the arena roof.
- At the south stands, work to build the final supports for seating at the top of the stands is nearing completion.
- Inside the south stands, electrical and mechanical conduit and plumbing is being installed, and partition walls are being put up.

The structure of the south stands rises above the Rideau Canal.

Scaffolding is up to allow for the painting of the large roof beams in the north stands.

The concrete structure of the south stands is nearing completion.

At the north stands, the roof structure is in place, the beams are being painted and the precast concrete is being repaired for the new seat installation.

At the very top of the south stands, yellow supports posts hold concrete form work in place while the new concrete beams for the seating curs.

I would add a (**) for Mosaic; at present it's 45k. Also, McMahon is 36,500 I believe. I'd say you've got a pretty conclusive list there though.

Are these the top ten of each by capacity?

If so, Credit Union Centre in Saskatoon should make the list . Hockey capacity is listed at 15,195 which is 11th bumping Winnipeg to 12th.

So We might as well do this as well for fun:
(Bolded are changes)
Take out the expandable seating and lock in (real seats, not bleachers). It's semantics 100 here a 100 thier? But technically if you like Mosaic would drop if it's the correct figure(didn't check).

Basically all of mosaic is bench/bleacher seating, so by your definition it would drop to 6k as it's only the lower endzone seating that is individual. For this year, expansion seating does count though, hard to say it doesn't when the average attendace at the 4 game mark will be about 40k.

True, take out the bleacher reference, unfair. How many seats did Mosaic add as temporary seating prior to the addition? That would seem more inline with temp, seating. IGF is expandable to 40 K as well.

interesting to note, MTS Centre losses its title of smallest seating capacity in NHL when NY Islanders move to Barclays Center in Brooklyn next year..

..another side note..did anyone see MTV music awards last night at Barclays Center?

IGF is expandable, not expanded. Mosaic is currently expanded, so its current capacity is 45k. Next year it falls back to 33,427 though.

Silver lining to everything

Miley has a longer tongue than would have thought
..I still have to give props to Justin Timberlake!.. Macklemore and Ryan Lewis really through it down.
Selena and Macklemore each had decent concerts come through here this month
..sorry back to topic..

Yeah, yeah expanded, expandable I know.Next year it will revert to the pre-grey cup #'s untill 2017-2018, when your new "Stadium" will be completed with a projected capacity of 33K-34K, so you do have 5 more seats than the current IGF next year, and for 4-5 years after that. Final #? We'll have to wait and see until it's completion.

It's a trivial comparison, just like I added 5 seats to MTS?
I hope you guys have 22 more seats in your new stadium so you can top us for the foreseeable future.

ps: Don't be to hard on the BB Labor day, we're currently a little bit challenged at the moment and don't want to be embarrassed to much by your Riders.

Yup, minor quibble.

In any case, I doubt this year will be worse than last, so take solace in that? I just hope we don't shit the bed.

I wonder whether the Roughriders are thinking of keeping a few more of those Grey Cup seats on a permanent basis. I realize that there's more hype this year. They're hosting and have a very strong team, but the numbers thus far are well beyond 33,000.

Game 1: 35,296
Game 2: 37,372
Game 3: 40,637

^ Aren't the expansion seats at Mosaic Stadium (the ones installed this year, specifically for the Grey Cup) rented? If so, it may not pay to keep them beyond 2013. This season is a perfect storm of an amazing team and the Grey Cup being played in Regina so it made sense to open them up during the regular season. But considering that those seats are selling for a relatively low amount (somewhere between $25 and $30), I'm not sure it would be cost effective to keep them up beyond this season.

33,000 is still a huge number for a city of Regina's size. In terms of proportion of population attending games, it would be like, what, 750,000 people attending a football game in Toronto? It probably makes sense to go in the direction of creating at least some level of scarcity, so as to provide some incentive to pony up for season tickets.

^^ Others have mentioned this year as unusual(Grey Cup/Winning Record)

Sask: 10 year average attendance:

2002 24,226
2003 29,352
2004 24,783
2005 25,454
2006 25,293
2007 28,054
2008 29,996
2009 30,606
2010 30,148
2011 29,940 ** (5-13)
2012 32,351

10 years earlier Avg. 1992- 2002 - Anywhere from 19,000-28,500 ?

** Bad Season?

You decide if Sask should keep the extra seats at the price level they have. Why is the BrainTrust in Sask. only budgeting for 33-34 K seats in the new stadium. Average attendance over 20 years possibly ?
